Circumst<strong>an</strong>ces <strong>for</strong> which review of request <strong>for</strong> exception is per<strong>for</strong>med by Associate De<strong>an</strong> <strong>for</strong>Graduate Medical Educationa. Trainee has <strong>an</strong> existing <strong>H1</strong>-B visa from <strong>an</strong>other U.S. academic institutionb. Trainee meets program selection criteria, as well as eligibility requirements <strong>for</strong>clinical practice in the State of Cali<strong>for</strong>niac. Department Chair makes <strong>for</strong>mal written request <strong>for</strong> exception <strong>to</strong> policy usingsample letter <strong>for</strong> clinically active traineei. Include justification <strong>for</strong> exception <strong>an</strong>d benefit <strong>to</strong> department <strong>an</strong>d UCSDii. Provide supporting documents including CViii. Department underst<strong>an</strong>ds that by law it must pay all applicable visaprocessing fees <strong>an</strong>d that these fees c<strong>an</strong>not be paid by the trainee. Inaddition, funds the department may receive <strong>to</strong> support programadministration, educational stipends, etc. c<strong>an</strong>not be used <strong>for</strong> this purpose.d. Associate De<strong>an</strong> <strong>for</strong> GME will review above materials <strong>an</strong>d will determine if <strong>an</strong>exception <strong>to</strong> policy is warr<strong>an</strong>ted.B. If a request <strong>for</strong> <strong>an</strong> exception does not fall under <strong>an</strong> existing justification <strong>for</strong> exception <strong>to</strong>policy then it will need <strong>to</strong> be reviewed by the full GME Review Committeea. Department Chair makes <strong>for</strong>mal written request <strong>for</strong> exception <strong>to</strong> policy usingsample letter <strong>for</strong> clinically active traineei.
