Technological Objective and Development Period: Metal materials technology forextremely precise control of crystal composition (enhanced purification, usefulelement additive, etc.), technology for extremely precise control of crystalorganization (crystal particle control, separation control, etc.), and compositionanalysis and measurement technologies will be established by FY 2005.Systematization ofthese technologies will be also carried out.4. Nanotechnology Particle Project FY2001-FY2005Project leader: Kikuo Okuyama, Professor, Hiroshima UniversityOutline: The objective of this project is to establish a platform for developingnanoparticle synthesis technology and fictionalization process technology fornanoparticles. Such technologies are important for producing nanostructures andexpressing nanofunctions.Technological Objective and Development Period: Basic technology that ensuresuniformity and stability in synthesizing single nanometer-sized particles, technology that creates stable functional elements having structure order, anddevice creation and analysis technologies will be established by FY 2005.Systematization of these technologies will be also carried out.5. Nanostructure Coating Project FY2001-FY2005Project leader: Toyonobu Yoshida, Professor, The University of TokyoOutline: This project is aimed at establishing a basis for technology to controlnano- structure in coating processes in order to add new functions to basicmaterials, including inorganic materials and metal materials.Technological Objective and Development Period: Optimal structural design andcontrol technologies for elemental materials that compose coating materials, coating process control technology, and coating analysis and evaluationtechnologies will be established by FY 2005. Systematization of thesetechnologies will be also carried out.6. Synthetic Nano-Function Materials Project FY2001-FY2005Project leader: Hiroshi Yokoyama, Director, AISTOutline: This project is being undertaken to explore and utilize nano-scalestructure-function relationships in order to develop technologies that design andsynthesize optical functions, electronic and spin functions, and molecularfunctions.5
