In this second stage, applying the basic or elementary technologies obtained inthe first stage, synergy ceramics and their application technologies will bedeveloped. In FY2001, research to demonstrate characteristics and functions ofsimple-shaped materials or single unit model materials will be carried out.10.Technology for Novel High-Functional Materials ProjectFY1996-FY2001The field of new materials is broad and progressing rapidly. This project aims tocomprehensively and flexibly support technologies of high importance that coincidewith industrial trends.New Biomimetic Materialsa. R&D on Advanced Stimuli-Responsive Materials (FY 1996 FY 2000)Research was carried out to develop high-stimuli responsive materials whichenable advanced function movement and expression under various simulationconditions. To achieve this, clarification of the correlation of stimuli-structure-motion functions of a high polymer which changes its shape/properties dependingon an external stimulus and research to realize the synthesis of a stimuliresponsive function was undertaken.b. Harmonized Molecular Materials (FY 1997 FY 2001)Research is being carried out to develop harmonized molecular materials thatexpress new functions, including substance recognition, conversion and transport,by forming a certain molecular group condition after controlling forms andconditions of individual molecules by using the correlation between weakmolecules.Structure Control System and Synthetic Process Technology (FY1996FY2000) The goal of this R&D was to fully utilize the capacity and function ofhigh-performance polymeric materials. Research was carried out on technology forprecise polymerization and analysis of molecular structure in order to preciselycontrol chemical bonding of polymers (molecular structure).11.Super Metal ProjectFY1997-FY2001The aim of this R&D is to establish technology for manufacturing innovativemetallic materials, or super metals, having vastly improved functional properties.Material structure will be controlled to the limit in order to miniaturize crystalgrain size or obtain an amorphous structure. Technologies to create mesoscopic7
