BIOGRAPHIESduction of Moby Dick for the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, named by TIME magaz<strong>in</strong>eas one of the 10 Best Theatrical Productions of 2002. He is author of Strategies forTeach<strong>in</strong>g High School Chorus (MENC 1998), and co-author of Shap<strong>in</strong>g Sound Musicians(GIA 2003). He is currently a Ph.D. candidate <strong>in</strong> musicology at the University ofWiscons<strong>in</strong>-<strong>Madison</strong>.Heather Thorpe, Con Gioia ConductorHeather has been the choral director at Badger Ridge Middle School s<strong>in</strong>ce 1997 whereshe is responsible for all choral activities and is the Cultural Arts Activities Chair. Inaddition to her duties <strong>in</strong> Verona, she directs two children’s choirs and the high schoolyouth choir and is a featured s<strong>in</strong>ger and soloist at the First Unitarian Society of<strong>Madison</strong>. Ms. Thorpe has worked with the <strong>Madison</strong> Children’s Choir and <strong>Madison</strong>Boychoir s<strong>in</strong>ce 1996 as conductor, voice coach and cl<strong>in</strong>ician. Her <strong>in</strong>termediate trebleand advanced women’s choirs with MCC toured throughout Wiscons<strong>in</strong>, Chicago, andNew York State.Ms. Thorpe is a member of ACDA, MENC,VoiceCare Network, is a member of WMEA’sComprehensive Musicianship Through Performance committee, has served as WCDAExhibits Choir, and the College Fair Chair of NextDirection: The National Conference forHigh School Students Consider<strong>in</strong>g Careers <strong>in</strong> Choral Music. Ms. Thorpe has been a guestconductor, cl<strong>in</strong>ician and teacher at many honors festivals, workshops and campsthroughout Wiscons<strong>in</strong>.A 1996 graduate of the University of Wiscons<strong>in</strong>-<strong>Madison</strong>, Ms. Thorpe was recognized asan outstand<strong>in</strong>g teacher <strong>in</strong> the October 2000 national publication of Teach<strong>in</strong>g Music <strong>in</strong> anarticle entitled “A Stand<strong>in</strong>g Ovation for Music Teachers”. In the spr<strong>in</strong>g of 2004 she wonthe 2004 Herb Kohl Fellowship for excellence <strong>in</strong> education. Heather and her husbandScott live <strong>in</strong> <strong>Madison</strong> with their children, Emily, Benjam<strong>in</strong> and Daniel.AccompanistsDavid AndersonA native of Clovis, New Mexico, David Anderson received his <strong>in</strong>itial musical <strong>in</strong>structionat the piano. He attended Baylor University, where he earned two degrees <strong>in</strong> pianoperformance (B.M., summa cum laude and M.M., with dist<strong>in</strong>ction) study<strong>in</strong>g withKrassimira Jordan. Dur<strong>in</strong>g his residence at Baylor, David performed extensively as asolo pianist and chamber musician, receiv<strong>in</strong>g numerous awards. He pursued additionalstudy with Mart<strong>in</strong> Can<strong>in</strong> at the Bowdo<strong>in</strong> Summer Music Festival <strong>in</strong> Brunswick, Ma<strong>in</strong>e,and Wolfgang Watz<strong>in</strong>ger at the Bösendorfer International Piano Academy <strong>in</strong> Vienna. Inhis f<strong>in</strong>al years at Baylor, David began conduct<strong>in</strong>g studies under the guidance of StephenHeyde.At the University of Ill<strong>in</strong>ois, David earned an M.M. <strong>in</strong> orchestral conduct<strong>in</strong>g withDonald Schleicher; dur<strong>in</strong>g his residence he served as ensemble manager for theUniversity of Ill<strong>in</strong>ois orchestra program and as Assistant Conductor for the Quad CitySymphony.
