The phenomenon intensifies theneed for lawyers with an appropriate comparativebackground competent to effectively advise clients onthe laws <strong>of</strong> more than one country. Globalization nowrequires attorneys to understand crucial legal issues in many contexts,international, regional or domestic. It is especially important for lawyerspursuing a career in international trade and business.For more than 25 years, the Comparative and International <strong>Law</strong> Institutehas <strong>of</strong>fered a certificate program <strong>of</strong> academic concentration within the lawschool, designed to provide students the opportunity to gain academicand practical training across a broad spectrum <strong>of</strong> topics in internationaland comparative law. Students are required to take at least five courseswith international, comparative, and trade and business components andcomplete an externship in an international law setting along with a course:Becoming an International <strong>Law</strong>yer.
