YTD Net ALP: 2,927,7871st 6 Mo. Agt Prod: 2,102,489% of Objective: 187%Rtn: 72.4Bernard Rapoport: I’ve had the privilege of associating withthousands of people who chose American Income because it’s acompany that they knew offered “opportunity unlimited.” Out ofthose thousands there are a few that are very, very special. One of those is Steve Friedlander; he’s like a son to me. It was ona vacation with his wife that he fell in love with New Zealand. Hecalled me and said, “B, I really love New Zealand!” I said, “If youlove it that much, I’ll take American Income to New Zealand andyou can be the SGA there.” Well, that’s exactly what happened. Insome eight or nine years, he has built an unbelievable agency. He hasinsured for himself that he will always be a very, very rich man as aresult of the leadership he has been able to provide. I take my hatoff to him! His main strength was that he wanted to believe insteadof being skeptical. He knew what “opportunity unlimited” meantand that it was at American Income where it could be realized. He’salways been one of my favorites. Yep, he’s my boy!Steve Friedlander with the New Zealand AgencyRoger Smith: Fortitude, brilliance, wisdom – you have it all, buddy! Your omnipresent spark lights the path that guides yourteam to excellence. You followed your astute insight into theneeds of working families across New Zealand, and in them yousparked hope and brought much-needed change. Here at AIL/NILICO, you spark hope in us as well. Your determination andmotivation strengthens our faith in what we do everyday of ourlives. Congratulations!Debbie Gamble: Congratulations to Steve and his entire agencyfor having a tremendous year in 2007! He was able to achieve187% of his production standard and have huge growth over theprior year's production, all through the efforts of his agency underhis leadership. He deserves to be recognized as SGA of the Yearfor those efforts. Our hope is for his agency to continue to grow and for him toachieve even greater accomplishments in the years to come. On apersonal note, Steve and Felice are truly wonderful people whomwe are privileged to be associated with.Rick Altig: I attended The Leadership Development School withSteve Friedlander in March of 1983.At that time, he was one of the top stars of the company forproviding leadership in personal production and quality. Steve is thekind of leader who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow—25years later he is still a leader in production and quality. Anyoneassociated with Steve Friedlander is blessed.Theodore Pappas: Steve is our company’s poster child foropportunity unlimited. Being with AIL/NILICO for as longas Steve has been, and knowing him as many people do, bringscertain words to mind: Visualization, Courage, Success, Humility,Leadership, and Perseverance. We in American & NationalIncome have some great leaders in our top management roles andpositions. Steve represents the epitome of what those positions areall about. Steve is not only a leader in his agency, but he is a leaderin AIL/NILICO. He looks to help and mentor when there is noreward but the reward of helping someone in need. I congratulatehim in his success and thank him for his friendship.Jeff Ribman: Steve, it started as a dream for you in 1995 whenyou brought your family to New Zealand. I’m sure it was extremelygratifying to receive the company’s ultimate recognition in 2007.It’s because of your dream that Lorenzo, Taina and I were ableto put together incredible teams in New Zealand and achieveour successes as the number one SA, GA and MGA for the year.Congratulations!B NUSTotal Bonuses: $1,679,212.53Retention Bonus*PR Bonus*qualifier sga amountBenjamin Eggen Altig-Orlovic $3,739.27Justin Germany Matt Flores 3,288.92Tibor Simon Altig-Orlovic 3,022.51Lily Tchen Cohen-Cohen 2,654.99Michael Perkins Jatoft-Foti 2,591.52Al-Karim Walji Altig-Orlovic 2,577.88Timothy Cruise Altig-Orlovic 2,537.76Preeti Sahgal Josh Chalom 2,526.60Samantha Chui Matthew Hogan 2,428.82Freida Yakubov Tom Williams 2,374.83total retention bonus paid: $136,621.9190 Producers QualifiedMGA Bonus*qualifier sga amountMichael Laramie Steve Greer $1,057.82Doreen Ryan-Foti Jatoft-Foti 823.15Dorian Oldham Oldham-Bianchi 621.79Brett Gryska Oldham-Bianchi 544.16David Wang Bob Olson 523.23Steven King Paul Rumbuc 448.13David Iriye Cohen-Cohen 441.30Sabrina Lloyd Barry Dillah 409.87Natalie Linker Allan Jennings 389.68Jason Mayer Furer-Whittinghill 376.19total mga bonus paid: $9,041.4226 Managers QualifiedReinstatement Bonus*qualifier sga amountDavid Wang Bob Olson $2,031.75Sami Mogannam Jatoft-Foti 1,434.81Robert Appel Tom Williams 895.11Balvino Cardoza Cohen-Cohen 835.82Frank Kolligian Slav Bitman 793.79Arthur Westergren Tom Williams 781.74Stephen Liberto Eric Giglione 729.23Timothy Dawe Bob Olson 626.43James Larkin Theodore Pappas 600.72Daniel Potilechio Bob Olson 516.04total reinstatement bonus paid: $18,077.7970 Producers Qualifiedqualifier sga amountAl Wall Josh Chalom $8,376.27Karen Apgar-Scholz Chris Hernandez 4,408.50Robin Andrade HO MA 2,295.00Rona Pileggi Spano HO Chicago 1,951.52Amanda Mlinaz Matt Henderson 1,572.00Kenneth Altizer HO WV 1,566.25Steven Orcherton HO CD (BC) 1,305.32Casandra Robinson HO CD (ON) 1,301.75Jacqueline Lowe HO CD (AB) 1,251.47William Verbeten Joe Manone 1,096.50total pr bonus paid: $46,051.5394 PR Reps QualifiedBR Bonus*qualifier sga amountRobert Dunn Surace-Smith $14,304.57Brett Gryska Oldham-Bianchi 12,000.95Stephen Bendure Surace-Smith 11,901.63Michael LiBassi Surace-Smith 11,895.69Sabrina Lloyd Barry Dillah 11,707.33Wayne Fader Marc Rosen 11,576.04Mitch Duplantis Marc Rosen 11,299.51Earnest Powers Simon Arias 11,184.38Jeffery Thiel Simon Arias 10,727.26Cheryl Foti Jatoft-Foti 10,404.94total br bonus paid: $691,865.03531 Managers QualifiedNew Agent Bonus*qualifier sga amountRoghie Hassanloo Josh Chalom $5,641.36Kevin Ishikane Altig-Orlovic 4,318.32Brenda Anderson Altig-Orlovic 4,054.72Raymond Angeles Altig-Orlovic 3,977.22Marc Coulter Imran Satti 3,723.44James Ching Marc Rosen 3,710.48Elvis O'Banor Eric Giglione 3,676.29Karen Sessing Marc Rosen 3,542.71Julius Chibayere Barry Dillah 3,377.36Magen Campbell Imran Satti 3,122.73total new agent bonus paid: $777,554.851,362 Producers Qualified

This time it was the question, “Are you leading with a win-win mindset?” I spent a fewminutes thinking about some of my conversations and actions, and I realized I needed to improvein this area. I proposed to do the following, and I challenge you to do the same.To grow a win-win mindset, we need to focus on the development of three character traits:1. Integrity. Integrity means treating everyone by the same set of principles. Keep promises andfulfill expectations. Be loyal to those who are not present.2. Maturity. Maturity is the balance between courage and consideration. Express feelings andconvictions with courage, balanced with consideration for the feelings and convictions of anotherperson. This requires maturity, particularly if the issue is very important to both parties.3. An Abundance Mentality. An abundance mentality flows from a deep, inner sense of personalworth and security. It is a paradigm that states, “This is a world of plenty, and there is enough foreverybody.” It results in the sharing of prestige, recognition, profits, and decision-making. It openspossibilities, options, alternatives, and creativity.Keeping in our hearts that our true calling as leaders is “to serve”, this disposition will be easy tomaintain. Now I ask you, “Are you leading with a win-win mindset?”Debbie Enstedt (Vice President, PR Field Operations) and DarleneDziewit (President of the Manitoba Federation of Labour)16 Spotlight June 2008 Encore!Leo Van Den Bussche (PR Rep in Manitoba) presenting a donation toSylvia Farely of the Manitoba Federation of Labour, accompanied byDebbie Enstedt, Darlene Dziewit (President of the Manitoba Federationof Labour) and Jacqueline de VooghtEncore! Formed in August 2003, this Washington D.C.-basedgroup educates the American public on the inadequacies of thelegal system and the barriers workers may face when they attemptto unionize and engage in collective bargaining. In Summer 2005, Bonior led a group of delegates — composedof international human rights advocates, U.S. academics, and civic, political, and religious leaders — across the United States on thePrior to his election, Robinson served as International Secretary-Treasurer for twenty-one years, a term that began in 1985 afterhe was unanimously elected into office, an event duplicated onfour successive occasions. During his tenure, he fostered strongrelationships with contractor groups and associations to providemembers with comprehensive pensions and health care. His impressive journey in union enhancement began with hisroofing career in Spokane, Washington. He graduated fromLocal Union No. 189’s apprenticeship program in 1968 and soonafter became highly involved with his union. In 1969, he waselected to the Local’s Executive Board where he served two termsbefore being elected as Recording-Secretary just three years later.Beginning in 1974, he held the position of the Local’s BusinessManager until he was appointed with the International Union asInternational Representative in 1982. It was during this time hepursued degrees in economics and labor studies while continuinghis union work.We are honored to introduce Kinsey Robinson as a new memberof AIL/NILICO Labor Advisory Board. His immense experienceand education, coupled with his outstanding determination anddrive, will propel our team to soaring heights.“Workers’ Rights are Human Rights” tour, exposing the abuses ofworkers’ rights in America.Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976, Boniorserved the residents of Macomb and St. Clair Counties for 26years, the longest tenure of any Congressman from this district. He spent these years advocating for working families acrossAmerica and was known to be a strong voice of human and civilrights. He hastruly dedicated his life to enriching the lives of workers’ and theirfamilies, and we look forward to the wonderful dynamic he willbring to our team.Scott SmithExecutive Vice President& Chief Marketing OfficerAttitude is a giftto give yourselfIn this issue of Spotlight you have seen much about our2008 Convention in Puerto Rico. Convention is reallyone of my favorite times of the year. When you attendConvention, it is nothing but a celebration of success. Onething everyone has in common is a great attitude.I started thinking, where does positive attitude comefrom? It comes from within. It comes from the decisionsyou make. It has nothing to do with what happens toyou; rather, it comes from how you react and what you dowith what happens to you. It comes from your ability toprocess your thoughts in a positive way regardless of thecircumstance. While there will always be highs and lows, the good newsis the more you work on your attitude, assuming you’rewilling to, the less vulnerable you will become to thenegative events in life. You must be determined to stay inthe right frame of mind. Determination and passion are amust to developing and maintaining a great attitude. Oncesustained, a great attitude will ultimately become a part ofyour fiber.Unless you decide that you want to become more positive, your attitude will not be positive. Even though you maybelieve you are a positive person, ask yourself, “Can Ibecome even more positive?”Here are some thoughts on attitude improvement:1. Always be cognizant that you have decided toimprove your attitude.2. Stop blaming others. Get over it. It ain’t them.3. Know where you are, and know where you shouldbe. Manage your time and be organized to avoid stressor tight situations.4. Become solution-oriented. Substitute the timepreviously spent griping on looking for solutions. Everyobstacle is an opportunity in disguise. If you spendtoo much time lamenting on the obstacle, then theopportunity will pass you by.5. Think before talking. Those who think before theyspeak seldom regret what they have said, and theresult is always positive.Think positive. Speak positive. Act Positive. Make“positive” a part of your daily routine. Seek solutions. You have been given a bag of cement and a bag ofstones. It’s your decision to build a stepping stone or astumbling block.18 Spotlight June 2008 Encore!Encore! Spotlight June 2008 19
