Pastor’s LetterDear Parishioners:Greetings from the rectory! I hope and trust that all goes well by you and that you are enjoyingthe wonderful fall weather. As I write this letter, the rides and food concessions are being set up in the parking lot; theweather is supposed to be good so I am keeping my fingers crossed that we all have an enjoyableannual Italian Family Feast. I hope to see you all there to have a good time and tosupport the parish as well. With the end of summer and the start of school, life is in full swing in the parish with meetingsgalore. The meetings are a sign of the vibrant ministries here in the parish. I hope everyonetries to take advantage of these ministries and spiritual opportunities. But, these areonly opportunities; we have to make the decision to take advantage of these opportunities ornot to take advantage of these opportunities. If you have a good voice, join the choir.Think about becoming a Eucharistic Minister, lector, etc. Consider becoming a ReligiousEducation catechist. Use you talents and time to help others in the parish. For those who can remember a recent baptismal ceremony, the priest or deaconoffers the parents and godparents a small lit candle with the admonition tokeep the flame of faith burning brightly in their child. As parents, we havethat responsibility toward our children to feed that flame of faith. Thatresponsibility leads us to bring them to Mass every Sunday, to learn about theirfaith through our outstanding parish school or Religious Education program. But we also have a responsibility towards ourselves when we are adults. As an adult, haveyou fed that flame of faith given to you by your parents and godparents? Are you trying togrow in your faith? We grow in our faith by increasing our knowledge of our faith and ofChrist, by serving our community and by our increased prayer. How are you doing in theseareas? Do you need to improve in these areas? Our Lady of Lourdes Parish family is trying to help each one of us to grow in these areas.Take advantage of these opportunities. I think you will be glad that you did!Remember: Together, we can do something beautiful for God.In Christ,Msgr. BrianPS:So far the parish is 1 for 2 – Jet win, Giant loss! I am hoping for improvement thisweekend and let’s go 2 for 2 (with some Yankee wins thrown in as well!).5 OLL-#439

Catechetical SundaySeptember 16, 2012Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:In union with the Church throughout the country, we gather today with gratitude to celebrateCatechetical Sunday. How timely that the theme for this Catechetical Sunday is: Catechists andTeachers as Agents of the New Evangelization. During this past year our energies have gone torenew our Sunday Celebration of the Eucharistic Liturgy using the new translation of the RomanMissal. Our efforts to assist our parishioners to Belong More Deeply as they celebrate the liturgytogether are bearing fruit. As we prepare to enter into the Year of Faith we look to our catechists to be agents of the NewEvangelization as we encourage all to Belong More Deeply. On this Sunday we recognize all whoare involved in catechetical ministry. We recognize those who teach children and those who prepareparents bringing their infants for Baptism. We recognize those involved in marriage preparationas well as those who help our youth to come to know Christ. We include those who prepareour catechumens as they seek to be one with us. We pray that each of these catechists mightbecome more deeply in love with Christ and His Church. The writings of our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI and the agenda for the Synod on New Evangelizationset for Rome in October make it very clear that the catechetical mission of the Church isshared by every member. This mission is advanced by the many committed catechists who witnessto the faith as they teach others. As chief catechist of this Diocese of Rockville Centre I thankyou for sharing your faith and I encourage you to begin the Year of Faith with me on the weekendof October 13 – 14. As each of us strives to Belong More Deeply may our prayer for each otherbear much fruit as we together carry on the great mission which Christ left to us, His Church.Sincerely yours in Christ,Bishop of Rockville Centre14 OLL-#439
