Assemblies start at 8.30 a.m. andfinish at 8.50 a.m.ATTENDANCE / REGISTRATION PROCEDURES100% attendance is required for students to make progress and achieve their full potential. At SunburyManor we strive to work in partnership to ensure that the correct procedures are followed in order toproduce positive records for attendance. The school day starts on the first bell at 8.25 a.m. whenstudents should go straight to their registration classroom.Registration times:8.30 – 8.50 a.m.3.00 – 3.10 p.m.Students must attend registration in their tutor group.Students should be in tutor group by 8.30 a.m.Students who are late for either tutor registration or assembly must sign in at the main office.Students will be signed into the late book and given a late card, which they should show onarriving to lesson. If a student does not have a card they should be sent back to the main officeto sign in.Students who fail to sign in will be marked as absent and parents will be phoned at home orwork to explain the student’s absence. It is the responsibility of the student to sign in and prevent phone calls home.Parents of students who are persistently late or frequently absent will be telephoned daily todiscuss the reason for this. In cases where attendance and lateness do not improve parents willbe invited to attend a meeting in school and may be referred to the Education Welfare Officer.Tutors will register their tutor group on PARS and close their register by 8.50 a.m. Any studentsarriving after this time must be signed in by the Inclusion Office. This will support them in tackling internal truancy and informingparents and Progress Managers as soon as possible. The Progress Managers and the On Callteacher will make spot checks. On assembly days, students must sign in with their tutor prior to going into the assembly, normally in their tutor room. Students absent for any reason must bring a letter to the tutor.Absence letters should be noted and filed on the student file.In cases where a phone call is not received from a parent the school will, where possible, ringhome on the first day of absence.Students who are late twice in one week will be given a one hour detention on Fridays afterschool. This should be written in the student planner to inform parents.A full copy of our Policy is available on the VLE.CASHLESS PAYMENTS - WISEPAYThe school uses a cashless system for payments for school lunches and snacks, trips, revision guides andextra curricular activities. CYCLING TO SCHOOLBecause of the busy, major roads in the local vicinity we do not encourage students to cycle to school. Ifthey choose to cycle they should wear a cycle helmet. In winter they should also wear reflective clothingand ensure that they have working lights. Their bikes should always be in roadworthy condition withworking brakes, etc. Students must obey the rules of the road – and may not give lifts to their friends ontheir bikes nor cycle on the pavement.Bikes must be left in the bicycle shed at the back of school and must be securely locked. They may notbe left in the Leisure Centre bicycle shed. Every effort is taken to ensure the safety of bikes left on siteduring the school day but no responsibility can be taken for any damage, howsoever caused.DETENTION AND THE “ON CALL” SYSTEMStudents may be detained during break/lunchtime without written notice to parents but will be allowedtime for food and/or toilet.Should a student have to be removed from a lesson “on call” they will be issued with a detention, to beserved that day, after school. Parents will be informed by phone call to advise that their child will remainin school until 4 p.m. The detention will be served from 3.10 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Internal Isolation Unit, supervised by 2 members of staff. Students will be expected to complete any work set for them, and ifno work is set, they will be expected to sit in complete silence until they are dismissed.Should we be unable to speak to a parent/guardian personally, the detention will be held over until thefollowing day. Of course should the student have a prior arrangement after school, for instance adoctor’s appointment or a sports fixture, the detention will be held over until the following day.“On call” is an unusual occurrence in school, and classes are rarely disrupted. However on thoseoccasions when a student is removed from class it would seem to make sense that they serve thedetention on the same day, and make up the work that they missed in that class. For all other detentions students may not be kept more than 10 minutes at the end of school, withoutprior notice to parents. For an after school detention parents will receive at least 24 hours’ notice. Thiscan be written in their planner and then acknowledged by the parent and will also be recorded onINSIGHT.EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSURESIn situations where the school has to close unexpectedly, for instance through extreme weatherconditions, parents will receive a text alert, an email via INSIGHT and the website will be kept up to datewith information. INTERNAL ISOLATION UNITThe Internal Isolation Unit, often referred to as “The Box” by students, was introduced in line with DCSFguidelines. Since the introduction of the Unit we have seen a huge decrease in external exclusions andthe Unit allows us to keep students on site, working and looking at improving their behaviour. The Unitcan accommodate up to 8 students at a time, with 2 members of staff and is a well lit, quiet environmentin which to work. Networked computers are available in the Unit. Class-work is sent to the Unit forstudents who are in “isolation” to complete, so that they are not missing out on the work. The 2members of staff also work with students in the Unit on improving their behaviour.External exclusions will still be used as an ultimate sanction and students returning from them will beexpected to spend a period of time on the Isolation Unit before returning to normal lessons.INTERNET USE POLICYThe School computer system is owned by the School and is made available to students to further theireducation and to staff to enhance their professional activities including teaching, research, administrationand management. The School’s Internet Access Policy has been drawn up to protect all parties – thestudents, the staff and the School. The School reserves the right to examine or delete any files that may be held on its computersystems or to monitor any Internet sites visited. MEDICAL CONCERNSIf a student becomes unwell or is injured in school they should go straight to the Medical Room in theCollege Block, or to the main school office. If they are too unwell to remain in school, a phone call will bemade asking a parent/ guardian to collect them as soon as possible. Some students may want to use their mobile phone to contact a parent if they feel unwell, without firstgoing to the Medical Room. Should your child phone you, or text you, please tell them to go to theMedical Room. Please DO NOT come to collect them, as this could lead to a situation where the school isunaware of the whereabouts of a student, or that an unwell student is wandering the school site alone. We would appreciate your cooperation with this.MEDICATION FOR STUDENTSStudents with medical needs who require prescribed medication must give the medication and a letter ofconsent from the parent to the Lead First Aider in the Medical Room. And could we please ask parents not to contact their children on their mobile phones in school.Phones may not be in blazer pockets—they should be in a bag, switched off. Should a student have theirphone out, use it, or should it ring they will be asked to hand it in to the teacher. It will be put in a sealedenvelope with their name on it. At the end of the day students will be required to serve a detention inthe Internal Exclusion Unit until 4 p.m. and they will be able to collect their phone at the end of thatdetention. Parents will be informed of the detention by phone call. If for any reason we are unable tocontact a parent the detention will be held over until the following day, although students will still beallowed to collect their phone, as we do not want any student making the journey home without theirphone. Our focus has to be on learning—students with phones out in school disrupt their own learning and thelearning of others.Mobile phones should be handed in during PE lessons for security, and cannot be left in the changingroom. The school accepts no liability for the loss/damage of any personal equipment whilst on the schoolpremises.12

There are 3 different types, green, amber and red.A student can be put on GREEN report by their tutor for general monitoring purposes (uniform, low-levelbehaviour, homework, attendance, etc) and they check it each day. It must be signed by parents eachday. If they are not responding to this, the tutor consults the Progress Manager to inform them the studentneeds to progress to AMBER, whereby they report to the Progress Manager every Mon, Wed and Fri at3.10 to have their report monitored. Again, it must be signed by parents each day.If the student responds to this level of report, they then move down to GREEN for a week and 'work theirway off report'. However, if there's still no positive response, the Progress Manager moves them on toRED report, where they report to the Progress Manager at 3.10 EVERY DAY and are more closelymonitored. If they respond well to this, they move down to AMBER, then GREEN - BUT THEY MUSTWORK THEIR WAY COMPLETELY OFF REPORT.If there's still no improvement, parents are invited in for a meeting with the tutor and Progress Manager.*A student can be on any colour report for more than a week if necessary, without moving up or downthe scale. This is the decision of either the tutor or Progress Manager.*Every colour of report must be signed each day by parents.14
