SanctionsUse of the Internet and the School computer network may be withdrawn from any student found to bein breach of the School Policy working outside of the Internet guidelines. The staff comments section ofthe student planner will be used to record any warnings issued by staff about inappropriate use ofcomputers.Please note that this policy is subject to change.LIBRARY/ LEARNING RESOURCE CENTREThe library is open from 8.00am – 4.00pm. We welcome, support and encourage all members of theschool community to use the LRC. Lost Property is put out ondisplay on a regular basis and any items not claimed are given to charity for recycling.MAKING APPOINTMENTS TO SEE STAFFStaff are always happy to meet with parents to discuss their child’s progress, or any concerns they have.Appointments can be made at a mutually convenient time. All staff can be contacted by email – theiremail address will be found on Insight. Staff emails are their first initial and surname plus@sunburymanor.surrey.sch.uk. So if a child is in tutor group 7JS and the tutor is Mr Smith, the emailaddress would be jsmith@sunburymanor.surrey.sch.uk.We respectfully remind you that you should not come into the school without an appointment andexpect to see a member of staff.Staff will not tolerate abusive phone calls or conversations and will not accept swearing/ insults/threatening language or aggression. Parents/ visitors behaving in an abusive manner will have theirmeeting or conversation terminated and will be asked to leave the school building. Abusive telephonecalls will be terminated.11
MEDICAL CONCERNSIf a student becomes unwell or is injured in school they should go straight to the Medical Room in theCollege Block, or to the main school office. If they are too unwell to remain in school, a phone call will bemade asking a parent/ guardian to collect them as soon as possible.Some students may want to use their mobile phone to contact a parent if they feel unwell, without firstgoing to the Medical Room. Should your child phone you, or text you, please tell them to go to theMedical Room. Please DO NOT come to collect them, as this could lead to a situation where the school isunaware of the whereabouts of a student, or that an unwell student is wandering the school site alone.We would appreciate your cooperation with this.MEDICATION FOR STUDENTSStudents with medical needs who require prescribed medication must give the medication and a letter ofconsent from the parent to the Lead First Aider in the Medical Room. This includes Paracetemol orallergy/hayfever medication. Students must not carry medication on them (the exception is inhalers forAsthma, which they should carry at all times).First Aid cover is provided in school all day and after school to cover sports fixtures and after schoolactivities.MOBILE PHONE USE IN SCHOOLSunbury Manor operates a “No see, no hear” mobile phone policy.Students are allowed to bring their phone to school, but they must be switched off and out of sight.They cannot be used during break or lunchtime. Emergency phone calls to parents can always be madefrom Reception and students should not be using their phones during the school day to contact theirparents. And could we please ask parents not to contact their children on their mobile phones in school.Phones may not be in blazer pockets—they should be in a bag, switched off. Should a student have theirphone out, use it, or should it ring they will be asked to hand it in to the teacher. It will be put in a sealedenvelope with their name on it. At the end of the day students will be required to serve a detention inthe Internal Exclusion Unit until 4 p.m. and they will be able to collect their phone at the end of thatdetention. Parents will be informed of the detention by phone call. If for any reason we are unable tocontact a parent the detention will be held over until the following day, although students will still beallowed to collect their phone, as we do not want any student making the journey home without theirphone.Our focus has to be on learning—students with phones out in school disrupt their own learning and thelearning of others.Mobile phones should be handed in during PE lessons for security, and cannot be left in the changingroom.The school accepts no liability for the loss/damage of any personal equipment whilst on the schoolpremises.12
