Thinking of signing <strong>up</strong> for a committee, but are afraid of what you may be asked to do? Well fear nomore! Below is a brief description of the various committees and related responsibilities. The duties aredivided <strong>up</strong> within a committee to make it easier on all the committee <strong>me</strong>mbers to get the job done!Re<strong>me</strong>mber, the more people that volunteer, the more fun there is to be had. <strong>Sign</strong> <strong>up</strong> Today!!Block Captains – ECA needs additional Block Captains throughout the neighborhood. The Block Captains’ primary duty is todistribute flyers announcing <strong>up</strong>coming <strong>Elizabeth</strong> events and current issues. Flyers are distributed approximately 6 ti<strong>me</strong>s a year toan average of 4-5 blocks (both residences and businesses). Each distribution cycle requires walking, and usually takes about a halfhour or so over a span of one or two weekends.Traffic – The ECA Traffic Committee works directly with the Charlotte Depart<strong>me</strong>nt of Transportation on street or traffic relatedissues. This committee also works with the neighbors to file required CDOT petitions for road changes, and provides <strong>up</strong>dates viathe newsletter regarding any major traffic issues that may affect the <strong>Elizabeth</strong> Neighborhood.Cri<strong>me</strong> – The ECA Cri<strong>me</strong> Committee partners with the staff of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Depart<strong>me</strong>nt assigned to ourneighborhood. This committee follows <strong>up</strong> on any major neighborhood-wide cri<strong>me</strong> issues, maintains the cri<strong>me</strong> email distributionlist, and, when necessary, canvasses the neighborhood and/or businesses with cri<strong>me</strong> information flyers.Beautification – This gro<strong>up</strong> is responsible for the overall appearance of the <strong>Elizabeth</strong> <strong>Community</strong> with projects such as the TreeRestoration Program. We need help to keep <strong>Elizabeth</strong> clean by organizing community clean-<strong>up</strong> days, taking the initiative to keepan eye out for areas of potential clean-<strong>up</strong> opportunities, and address items that need to be submitted to the City.Newsletter – The ECA sends out a quarterly newsletter to all <strong>Elizabeth</strong> residents. The newsletter is great forum to spreadinformation pertaining to all of us in <strong>Elizabeth</strong>, and we welco<strong>me</strong> you to submit articles or any creative ideas to help make thenewsletter topical and interesting. This committee also helps apply the address labels and prepare the newsletter for mailing.Zoning – The ECA works closely with the City on zoning issues and keeps residents infor<strong>me</strong>d of any major decisions. As ourcommunity and the city around us continue to grow and change, the best way to stop any unwanted zoning issues is to stayinfor<strong>me</strong>d.Social – As so<strong>me</strong> of you already know, the <strong>Elizabeth</strong> neighborhood is all about having so<strong>me</strong>thing fun to do at all ti<strong>me</strong>s! There arecurrently events scheduled throughout the year, with committees needed for each event. Listed below are so<strong>me</strong> of the annualevents that we all enjoy, all of which can use your help in planning and organizing. Please indicate which social function/s youwould like to work onEaster Egg Hunt: This event requires planning with Parks and Rec to facilitate, and has a Master of Ceremonies (usuallythe Easter Bunny). Tasks include purchasing plastic eggs, candy and small toys, stuffing plastic eggs, planning ga<strong>me</strong>sand activities, and, of course, hiding the eggs!Progressive Dinner: This event is what everyone talks about all year! This event takes about 7-10 volunteers to plan andcoordinate a dinner party for <strong>up</strong> to 200 guests. Tasks include selecting a the<strong>me</strong> and recipes for the dinner, recruitinghosts, signing <strong>up</strong> guests, creating the publicity and disseminating info, purchasing s<strong>up</strong>plies, arranging entertain<strong>me</strong>nt, andparty set<strong>up</strong>/clean<strong>up</strong>.The Big E Race: This annual race in March requires about 20 volunteers. Tasks include finding sponsorships,coordinating the runners and organizing the event, printing brochures, helping with entertain<strong>me</strong>nt, and directing therunners on the course.The Holiday Party: This December event takes 5 volunteers, and tasks include identifying the host house, preparingflyers, purchasing party products, and cleaning <strong>up</strong> after the party.The Ho<strong>me</strong>s Tour: As we showcase the Ho<strong>me</strong>s of Distinction in <strong>Elizabeth</strong> in the month of October, we need as manyvolunteers as we can get for this event. Committee <strong>me</strong>mbers help the Chairperson to identify sponsorships, send outletters, keep track of money received, help with news articles and publicity, sell tickets, purchase and distribute signs, andorganize volunteers for each location throughout the day.
