urner systems and transfer systems as well as pumps used in the productionof biodiesel. Particularly in the latter area, ALLWEILER AG has significantlymore experience and know-how than its international competitors. The processes for producing biodiesel and its intermediate products placespecial demands on pumps and materials. In fact, conventional pumps failquickly under these conditions and are able to stay in service for only ashort time. Yet another presentation explained the special benefits of usingscrew pumps in power plants. The service department explained the best way to bring pumps into service, and how condition-based maintenance and telemetric remote monitoringcan help avoid downtime by detecting the first signs of irregularity.Engineers from the design department gave a live demonstration of moderndevelopment tools like FEM, CFD, and CAE. Their use of these methodsenables them to design flow-optimized housings, spindles, and impellers formore efficient pumps. Visitors could also see with their own eyes howcompact pump sets are designed with a high safety reserve to counteractpressure loads, external forces, and forces coming through the pipes. A reallifeexample of how such advanced tools benefit pump users was demonstratedby a project in which ALLWEILER needed only four weeks to develop aspecial impeller for a cooling-water pump at the request of a major manufacturerof diesel engines. The customer's request was founded upon aneed to increase a motor's power output and therefore also its coolingcapacity by about 20 percent within a short time.ALLWEILER's product line covers especially discharging of fuel from tankertrucks, tank cars, or ships; transloading, circulating, and transferring fuelfrom storage tanks; delivering fuel to oil burners; and injecting fuel into gasturbines. Each of these applications places special demands on the pumpingsystem. ALLWEILER masters a variety of pump technologies, such as two orthree-spindle screw pumps and centrifugal pumps, so planners and operatorsof power plants will always get the most economical and reliablesolution available. Low and predictable lifecycle costs are becoming moreand more important and is another area addressed by ALLWEILER's productstrategy.Throughout the entire event, ALLWEILER presented 23 pumps that arespecifically suited for use in power plants, although they focused onpumping solutions for turbine auxiliary systems and the entire fuel-deliverychain in power plants, large diesel engines, and biodiesel production. Foreach application, the company provides its customers with a specific, precisely adapted product. These include particularly:udry-installed or immersed pumpsucentrifugal pumps and three-spindle screw pumpsutwo-spindle screw pumps especially for large flow ratesugearwheel pumps for low-viscosity liquids under high pressureuprogressing cavity pumps and peristaltic pumps for special applicationsand peripheral systemsSeries NSSVu4u5
