Questions & Answers aboutWhat is theOrder <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong>?Established in December 2000, the Order<strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong> is the highest honour <strong>of</strong> theprovince <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong>. The object <strong>of</strong> theOrder <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong> is to recognize individualswho have demonstrated excellence andachievement, and who have made outstandingcontributions to the social, cultural or economicwell-being <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong> and its residents.Who is eligible for theOrder <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong>?• Any Canadian citizen who is a present orformer long-term resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong>is eligible for nomination to the Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong><strong>Brunswick</strong>.• Individuals who have contributed significantlyto the social, cultural or economic wellbeing<strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong> and its residents bydemonstrating excellence and achievement ina given area.• A maximum <strong>of</strong> 10 individuals may be investedwith the Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong> annually.• Elected representatives presently serving inthe House <strong>of</strong> Commons, the Senate, the <strong>New</strong><strong>Brunswick</strong> Legislature and judges <strong>of</strong> any courtare not eligible for nomination.Will theOrder <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong>be conferred posthumously?The Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong> may be conferredposthumously if an individual’s name has beenapproved for membership prior to that individual’sdeath and, in exceptional circumstances, inrespect <strong>of</strong> an individual who is nominated after hisor her death.Who can nominate someone forthe Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong>?Anyone may nominate an individual, keepingin mind that the Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong>recognizes individuals who have contributedsignificantly to the social, cultural or economicwell-being <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong> and its residents.How do I nominate someone?Simply detach and complete the attachednomination form; or write, telephone or fax theOrder <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong>, Office <strong>of</strong> Protocol, andyou will be sent a nomination form. You can alsovisit our Web site at:www.gnb.ca/onbPlease be advised to ask several other peopleto send in letters supporting your nomination.However, only one nomination form is requiredfor each nominee.How are the recipients chosen?An independent group called the Order <strong>of</strong><strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong> Advisory Council recommendsthe appointment <strong>of</strong> members to the Order <strong>of</strong><strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong> each year after considering all thenominations received. There are no fixed quotasor categories, but there is a maximum number <strong>of</strong>10 appointments annually. If your nominee is notchosen this year, you are welcome to submit thenomination again.What does the Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong><strong>Brunswick</strong> Advisory Council do?The Council reviews the nominations and putsforward names recommended for membership tothe Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Brunswick</strong>.
