Assist when requested in accident-repeater awareness.E. Conduct <strong>safety</strong> audits <strong>and</strong> <strong>safety</strong> inspections.F. Assist supervisor in providing personal <strong>safety</strong> contacts <strong>and</strong> monthly <strong>safety</strong> contact needs.G. Assist in development of TLT/JSA/SOPs <strong>and</strong> training on them.H. Assist in new employee orientation.I. Assist in equipment <strong>safety</strong> or project <strong>safety</strong> reviews.J. Assist supervisor in communicating <strong>safety</strong> incidents via the Safetygram or accident/injuryreports.K. Implement <strong>and</strong> audit area-<strong>safety</strong>-concern log book.N. Accept responsibility to address issues, pursue unsafe practices, <strong>and</strong> conditions tocorrection.O. H<strong>and</strong>ling <strong>safety</strong> concerns.1. Encourage all employees to relay <strong>safety</strong> concerns/complaints to their immediate supervisorfor correction.2. If a concern is brought to your attention, inquire to find out if the employee has discussedit with his/her supervisor. If the supervisor has not been contacted, encouragethe employee to accompany you to discuss the <strong>safety</strong> concern with the supervisor <strong>and</strong>help develop a solution.3. Review <strong>safety</strong> concern with the supervisor in charge to develop a satisfactory solutionor response. Time allowed to implement the solution <strong>and</strong>/or develop a response shouldbe related to the magnitude/complexity of the problem <strong>and</strong> should be reasonable dependingon the situation. A sincere effort must be made to resolve the <strong>safety</strong> issue atthe supervisor level before proceeding any further.4. The employee initiating the <strong>safety</strong> concern should be contacted, if not involved, <strong>and</strong>informed of the outcome of the review with the supervisor.5. If the response or corrective measures resulting from the review with the supervisor arenot satisfactory <strong>and</strong> cannot be resolved, the department superintendent should becontacted.Continued on next screen

The intent to proceed to the next higher level <strong>and</strong> generatea “greenie” should be communicated.6. The “greenie” should be completed <strong>and</strong> copies distributed per instructions on theform. The “greenie” should be reviewed with the department superintendent for his/her response/input. Copies of the green slip should be sent to the <strong>safety</strong> supervisor<strong>and</strong> union head <strong>safety</strong> <strong>committee</strong> representative.7. If the <strong>safety</strong> issue is not resolved at the superintendent level, the issue is to be investigated<strong>and</strong> reviewed by the department Joint Safety <strong>and</strong> Health Committee.8. If the <strong>safety</strong> issue is not resolved at the department Joint Safety <strong>and</strong> Health Committeelevel, the <strong>safety</strong> superintendent <strong>and</strong> head union <strong>safety</strong> <strong>committee</strong> representativewill investigate with involved parties. The issue will be reviewed with the Joint Safety<strong>and</strong> Health Committee or pursued by the head union <strong>safety</strong> <strong>committee</strong> representative<strong>and</strong> <strong>safety</strong> superintendent.P. H<strong>and</strong>ling Imminent Danger Situations:1. When an unsafe condition exists, or practice involving an imminent danger situationwhere there is a significant likelihood of serious injury or equipment damage occurring,the supervisor in charge <strong>and</strong> head shift <strong>safety</strong> <strong>committee</strong> representative shouldbe contacted immediately. Individual workers also have the ability/responsibility tostop work in imminent danger situations; especially where there is a potential forserious injury!2. The department superintendent, union head <strong>safety</strong> <strong>committee</strong> representative <strong>and</strong> <strong>safety</strong>superintendent should be contacted if the issue is not resolved.
