What leVel of color control do you need? 

‘Demo’ mode (continuous sequence of 

color fade, color sequence, color washes: 

for a demonstration of simple effects (such as 

fixed color, color sequence and color wash), you 

do not need a controller. Each fixture is factoryset 

to id as indicated on the lighted screen 

on the back of the array. (see illustration below 

for location of lighted screen) if the id is left as 

001, the unit will continuously advance through a 

factory-set color sequence “demo”. 

Stop on pre-programmed colors, continuous 

fades, color wash sequences and adjust intensity: 

the lW36-con controller is required to produce 

synchronous color changing mixes. Various 

preprogrammed user buttons make it easy to set 

specific colors and also types of color sequences with 

separate fade rates. the lW36-con controller must 

remain connected to the set of led Wall Washers it is 

controlling. 

Customize colors, light shows, multi-channel scenes: 

for more advanced and/or customized lighting control, 

the led Wall Washer can be connected to any standard 

usitt dmX 512 controller (like via interface dmX-hd), 

allowing the led Wall Washer to be integrated into 

any type of automated or programmed light show. the 

adapter cable lW36-Xlr3 or lW36-Xlr3-15 is required 

to connect the lW36 Wall Washer’s signal cable to 

Xlr3 equipment. 

dmX 512 products typically interface with either 5-pin or 

3-pin Xlr3 type connectors. regardless of whether it is 

a 3-pin or a 5-pin system, the pin configurations for DMX

The PRIORI T2 under cabinet and designer task light is a convertible fixture, rather than one that is specific to only a hardwire or 

only a plug-in installation. This means that the first fixture can be hardwired and linking extensions (“jumpers”) can be used to bring 

power to all the others. This also allows one SKU to serve as either a hardwire unit or a plug-in unit (power cords sold separately). In 

the past, hardwire fixtures were not allowed to be interconnected with “jumpers”. Each unit had to be hardwired separately.

Rope light products in all their various types, whether round, rectangular, LED or incandescent, are wired in series parallel. 

This means that several individual lamps or LEDs are wired together to equal 12V, 24V or 120V. Then the individual series 

are wired together to light up in unison. However, the small wires and solder joints that interconnect the individual lamps 

or LEDs, and the resistors in the case of LED, can be damaged by flexing, impact, high ambient temperatures, among other 

things. 

If one wire, solder joint or resistor fails or breaks, a whole section will not light. Due to the number of elements involved, and 

the numerous extenuating circumstances beyond our control, American Lighting offers a "standard linear warranty" on most 

linear lighting products. The conditional warranty offers replacement product by section due to defective material and/or

What is the difference between power 

supplies, transformers and drivers? 

• "Power supplies" is a general term for anything 

that provides a regulated output for lighting loads. A 

somewhat similar example of this is a ballast, which is 

the power supply for fluorescent and HID sources. LED 

power supplies convert 120V AC input to regulated DC 

output (typically 12V DC or 24V DC) to provide the best 

operating condition for the LED to last its full life. 

• Transformers step down the 120V AC input to 12V 

or 24V AC output and although they have circuit 

protection, they do not regulate the output from 

voltage spikes. 

• Drivers are power supplies for LED loads. They 

are available in both constant current and constant 

voltage types and they isolate the LEDs from line 

voltage spikes.

how far away can the power supply be? 


• If you locate a power supply too far away the last 

light bulb or LED in a lighting system, you will end 

up with a noticeably dimmer output at the end of 

the run than at the beginning. This is called voltage 

drop. In the case of LEDs, relatively small wattages 

are involved, which helps the voltage maintain its 

strength for longer than conventional low voltage 

systems. 

In general, these are the guidelines for avoiding 

voltage drop: 

• For LED systems, use 16-gauge or better lead wire 

and keep the power supply within 35 feet of the last 

LED (42.8 for LED-4WR-24V) 

• For incandescent systems powered with electronic 

transformers, use 12-gauge wire or better and keep 

the power supply within 10 feet of the last lamp. 

• For incandescent systems powered with magnetic 

transformers, use 12-gauge wire or better and keep 

the power supply within 25 feet of the last lamp.

average incandescent bulb life, rated life and average life are terms used to describe the number of hours at which half of lamps have failed. for leds, the 

hours of rated life specify the point where 70% of original lumen output is reached. Below this point the effective life is over however, the led will still emit
