Student CouncilINTRODUCING YOUR STUDENT COUNCIL EXECUTIVE MEMBERSOscar Thomas – Student Council President‘Hey! I'm Oscar! Last week I was elected as Student Council President. This year I'm super excited to contribute to allthe many recognisable Student Council events such as 40 Hour Famine and Shave for a Cure (which is coming up onthe 15th). I'd also like to welcome the new group and can't wait to see what we accomplish in the year to come. Ifyou have anything at all you'd like to contribute throughout the year please let myself or anyone in the StudentCouncil know, we'd love to hear it’.Abi Trewartha – Vice President‘One of the main reasons I joined the Bendigo Senior School Representative Council is because I loved to be involvedin anything that will help others and give back to the community. I have been in SRCs ever since I was in primaryschool and from the experiences I have gained in them I feel I have grown as a person and have had my skills triedand tested. Without SRC I would have never have had the confidence to go on a one year Rotary exchange to Brazil, stand up and publicly address my peers, perform in front of hundreds or generally be able to be the most confidentperson I can be. SRC is such a rewarding experience - you get to help out around school and community, makeimportant decisions, be involved and get a real idea of how your school really works and is run. SRC is somethingthat I am so glad I have joined and am involved in and I'm looking forward to making some changes and puttingsome smiles on faces this year’.Ebony Jade-Jones - Treasurer‘Hey my name is Ebony and I am the Student Council Treasurer for 2012. I took on this role because it will challengeme and I get to work closely with 5 awesome people’.Rory McCormick - Secretary‘I look forward to working with Student Council so that we can support many worthwhile causes and develop astrong student culture both in the school and the wider community. We are part of such a great team and hopefullywe will be able to make a difference’.Elley Burgess – Publicity Officer‘My name is Elley Burgess, I'm in year 12. In 2010 I went on student exchange to Italy for five months and I'mpassionate about building relationships and understanding different culture. I wish to share that with the school thisyear through student council. I'm planning on organizing a student driven trip to Asia this year so everyone can getinvolved! I'm excited to be a part of Student Council this year and can't wait for lots of exciting adventures!’Phoebe Snep – Publicity Officer‘My role is to be one of two publicity officers. Through our work this year, I want to promote our already thrivingStudent Council and get involved both within the school and in organisations across the world. Over the year I'mhoping to meet a lot of new people and be part of a lot of fun events and good causes. I hope to gain new skills andutilise those I already have to benefit and expand both my own knowledge and experience and the success of ourstudent council’.INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S WEEK GALA DINNERThis week is International Women’s Week and our Student Council Vice President Abi Trewartha was fortunateenough to attend the Gala Dinner/fundraising event to mark the occasion. Funded by ‘Zonta’, Abi sat with otherBendigo Senior student representatives and students from other schools in Bendigo. The event was incrediblyinspiring. tracking the School of St Jude’s in Tanzania from its humble beginnings through to today. This example of12 March 2012 6
