of the contract with Messrs
the Mararoa are well suited for the
service and would be popular boats
Y M C A BOYS ENTBRTA1SMENT
The Y M C A Boys entertainment
last Friday evening was a grand success
The Hall was well filled and the pro ¬
ceeds amounted to over 80 The au-
dience
¬
were apparently more than satis-
fied
¬
with the evenings enjoyment
indeed their anticipations were greatly
surpassed if we may so judge from the
frequent and vigorous applause More
than usual interest perhaps was aroused
from the fact that many of those who
took part were very young and yet did
remarkably well all who took part in
fact did so well that it would be dinicult
to make special mention of any
The opening exercise was a piano solo
well played by iliss May Damon This
was followed by a recitation Catching
the Cat so aptly spoken by Miss Ada
Whitney as to elicit great applause
Little Ifuth Bowen then captivatedthe
audience with a simple sweet piano
solo A recitation Xo Wine at My
I Wedding by Miss Evelyn Dexter and
a vocal solo by Mr ii A tttih were
well rendered Perhaps the two events
ot the evening were those in which Mr
H W Peek and Mis Le Count respec-
tively
¬
tigered The former held the
audience in deep silence as he appro-
priately
¬
delivered The Battle Flag at
Shenandoehand then in response to
an encore he afforded great amusement
with a eomtca take off on the sermon of
l a uaru sueiiea Baptist jiiss iee
Count played beaudfully on the man
colin accompanied on the piano b
Miss McGrew The audience would liave
more but instead cf responding ia a
musical way Miss Le Count gave a
weird recitation speciallv adapted to in--
i terest the younger people and with such
artistic skill was it rendered that the
acdience would not rest satisfied until
Miss Le Count bad recited yet another
storv a touching incident in Western
frontier life The Wreck of the Hes ¬
perus was described with much skill
by Master Harold Dillingham This
part of the entertainment closed satis-
factorily
¬
with a duet bv Miss Adele
Widdifield and Mr Oscar Herold The
inner man also was then satis led with
ice cream sherbet and cake passed
around bv the boys
