The Chemical Guides in this section are offered as ageneral indication of the compatibility of the variousmaterials used in Parker/Dayco hose with the chemicalsand fluids listed. The basis for the ratings in thisguide include actual service experience, the advice ofvarious polymer suppliers, and the considered opinionof our rubber chemists. When in doubt, a sample of thecompound should always be tested with the particularchemical it is to handle. Some of the variables thatcome into play in the resistance of a compound to achemical attack are:1. Temperature of the Material Transmitted: Highertemperatures increase the effect of chemicals onrubber compounds. The increase varies with thepolymer and the chemical. A compound quitesuitable at room temperature might fail very quicklyat higher temperatures.Purchase at http://www.mrostop.comChemical Guide2. Service Conditions: A rubber compound usuallyswells when exposed to a chemical. With a givenpercent of swell, a hose tube may function satisfactorilyif the hose is in a static condition, but may failquickly if the hose is subject to flexing.3. The Grade or Blend of the Rubber Compound:Basic rubber polymers are sometimes mixed orblended together to enhance a particular propertyfor a specific service. As an example, the NBR usedas the tube material for Parker/Dayco aircraft refuelinghose may vary slightly in its makeup from theNBR used in the tube of Thoro-Flo Multi-Purposehose. The reaction to a particular chemical may,therefore, be somewhat different.When in doubt, a sample of the compound shouldalways be tested with the particular chemical it isgoing to handle.HOSEChemical ChartsGeneral Chemical Resistance of Parker Hose CompoundsSee the following pages for specific applications.ASTMCommon Designation HoseName D1418-64 Composition General Properties ElementBuna-N or Nitrile NBR Nitrile-Butadiene Excellent oil resistance. Good physical properties. Tube/CoverCross Linked XPE Cross Linked Excellent resistance to most solvents, oils and Tube Polyethylene TubePolyethylene Polyethylene chemicals. Do not confuse with chemical properties of standardpolyethylene.EPT or EPDM EPDM Ethylene-propylene- Good general purpose polymer. Excellent heat ozone, and Tube/Coverdieneterpolymer and weather resistance. Not oil resistant.Flourocarbon TFE Polytetra- Excellent chemical and solvent resistance, inert to most Tuberesin (Teflon) flouroethylene materials. Smooth anti-adhesive surface – easily cleaned.GRS or SBR SBR Styrene-Butadiene Good physical properties, including abrasion resistance. Tube/CoverNot oil resistant. Poor weathering and ozone resistance.Hypalon CSM Chloro-sulfonated Excellent ozone, weathering and acid resistance. Good abrasion Tube/Coverpolyethylene Good abrasion and heat resistance. Can be compounded forgood oil resistance.Natural NR Isoprene Rubber Excellent physical properties, including abrasion resistance.
