Victory Over Sin 56The conscious and the sub-conscious of man’s mental and emotional make-upcould be compared to a giant iceberg, with about 90 percent of his consciousness belowthe surface in what is referred to as “sub-conscious.” We need to understand that man’ssub-conscious accepts everything allowed through the door of man’s will --- that is, allknowledge, without distinction between good and bad!God created man with a “brain” to serve as - a “door” (a gateway) to protect thesub-conscious. The brain serves as a “bumper,” to man’s spirit -- to accept, or reject, anyinformation received through the five senses into man’s conscious mind, the brain. Thedoor between the conscious brain and the sub-conscious is where man’s will resides.Man’s soul -- (his real self) -- communicates with the outside world through hisconscious brain (mind). God created man unique in that he is different from the animalworld. Man was created “a living soul.”Throughout Scripture the principle of reaping and sowing is taught, but, nowhere is it put more simpler than in Galatians 6:7, “Whatsoever a man sows, that shallhe also reap.” And, nowhere is this truer than in the fields of man’s sub-conscious. Godgave man a “brain” to protect what enters the sub-conscious – or what Scriptures calls,“man’s heart!” If a farmer plants corns, he doesn’t reap wheat – what he sows is what hewill reap! Just so, what we plant in our heart, is the kind of life we will reap! Ourthoughts are Satan’s prime target. Whatever we exposes our mind too determines whatlife we will live. The believer can “resist the devil” by a choice of his will -- (with the power of theHoly Spirit) – and Satan “will flee” (James 4:7). Jesus said, “Behold I stand at the door andknock and if any man will open to Me, I will come in and have fellowship with Him”(Revelation 3:20). It is this “door” to man’s heart that Jesus refers too.The Scriptures listed on the previous page teach that we are spiritual to thedegree that our mind is involved with spiritual things. (Read 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 &Philippians 4:8 again.)What do we expose our mind too?“They who live after the flesh, do so because their mind is on the thingsof the flesh; but they who live after the Spirit do so because their mindis on the things of the Spirit. Because, to be carnally minded is death –[separation from God’s purpose] – but to be spiritually minded is lifeand peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is notsubject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are inthe flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in theSpirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you” (Romans 8:5-9).
