SNIF ® SHEER R-60HB, P-60HB, P-60iAluminium REFINING SYSTEMSNIF Sheer Double Nozzle System with optional coverlifter, in maintenance position.SNIF ® SHEER R-60HB and P-60Double Nozzle Systems providea nominal continuous refiningrate of 60,000 lb (27,000 kg) perhour. The system consists of aheated refining furnace, two (2)SNIF SHEER spinning nozzles, and PLC automated process andfurnace heating controls.R-60HB and P-60 furnaces aredivided into two separate anddistinct refining chambers, eachequipped with a spinning nozzlemounted to the furnace cover. Each chamber is designed tooptimize process gas bubblesaturation throughout the meltto maximize spinning nozzlerefining efficiency. An internalbaffling system controls the flowof metal, ensuring efficient refining of the molten aluminium as it flowsthrough the refining furnace.Standard inlet and outlet connections are located on the same end ofthe furnace, minimizing trough revisions. An optional four port furnaceis available that can be installed in-line; in a "U-turn" configuration thatreverses metal flow; or in an "L" configuration that changes the metal flowdirection by 90 degrees."Trough airlocks" installed in the inlet and outlet ports allow metal to flowfreely in or out of the furnace, but prevent air infiltration, a cause of excessivedross formation. Technical information describing the advantages of usingtrough airlocks in SNIF systems is available upon request.A tap-out drain is provided to empty the furnace for alloy changes orextensive cleaning. A tilting furnace is available as an option. The SNIF furnace features a self contained hydraulic cover lifter that raisesthe top to expose the entire surface of the bath for cleaning and servicing. In the closed position, the cover provides an excellent perimeter seal thatprevents air infiltration and excess dross generation.SNIF P-60HB FURNACEThe P-60HB furnace is identical to the R-60HBexcept that it has a refractory lining cartridgethat can be quickly and easily replaced. Whenthe furnace refractory needs to be changed, theold cartridge is simply lifted out and replacedwith a new one. The cartridge can be replacedin one or two days, possibly without removingthe steel shell from the casting line. The systemcan be returned to service after a 30-hourpre-heat.The lining cartridge consists of a dense, hotfacerefractory and multiple insulation layers. All refractory is non-wetting and pre-cured. Thecartridge is enclosed in foil to prevent moistureabsorption while in storage and to minimizecontact with the insulation during handling. The cartridge contains a graphite block heatingsystem with removable elements.SNIF P-60i (IMMERSION HEATED)FURNACEThe P-60i furnace is similar to the P-60HBsystem except it is heated by two (2) ceramicimmersion heaters suspended from the cover(1 installed in each chamber) in place of thegraphite heater block.OPTIONSR-60HB and P-60 furnaces can be ordered withthe following options:• 4 port furnace for installation flexibility inthe casting pit.• Hydraulic tilting system to empty thefurnace between casts for cleaning oralloy changes.• Swivel mast that both lifts and rotates thecover.• Customized controls.SNIF R-60HB FURNACEThe R-60HB is a specially designed refractory-lined refining furnace. Threefurnace walls are constructed of an inner layer of poured-in-place castrefractory and multiple layers of insulating boards. The fourth wall of thefurnace contains a graphite heater block with removable electric heatingelements. This internal heating system provides continuous temperaturecontrol of the metal in the refining furnace.
