The Ministry for <strong>the</strong> EnvironmentCorradoClini presented today an agreement by <strong>the</strong> seat of Benetton Group to analyze, calculate andreduce CO 2 emissions caused by production activities in <strong>the</strong> factory of Monastir (Tunisia). Thefocus will be on <strong>the</strong> carbon footprint assessment of two children’s products ( t-shirt and polo ) toevaluate reduction measures in order to obtain carbon neutral products.As first step toward emission reduction, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Italian</strong> brand will join <strong>the</strong> “PROSOL industry” programpromoted by <strong>the</strong> Tunisian Government in collaboration <strong>with</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Italian</strong> Ministry for <strong>the</strong>Environment, <strong>the</strong> United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and <strong>the</strong> Mediterranean RenewableEnergies Center (MEDREC) to endeavor <strong>the</strong> spread of solar heating technology in <strong>the</strong> industrial andmanufacturing field in Tunisia. A huge solar manifold (surface 1000 m 2 )is going to be installed inBenetton’s factory in Monastir <strong>with</strong> <strong>the</strong> technical support of <strong>the</strong> Politecnico di Milano for <strong>the</strong>planning phase and for <strong>the</strong> realization of this solar system.This choice will pave <strong>the</strong> way to <strong>the</strong> application on a large scale of solar heat tech in <strong>the</strong> industrialprocesses <strong>with</strong> huge energy consumptions. In Europe <strong>the</strong> industrial sector uses 30% of <strong>the</strong> energyamount.


-VOLUNTARY AGREEMENT WITH CARLSBERG ITALIAEnvironmental Sustainability: it’s Carlsberg Italia, <strong>the</strong> benchmark in <strong>the</strong> beer industryUndersigned <strong>the</strong> <strong>voluntary</strong> agreement between <strong>the</strong> <strong>Italian</strong> Ministry for <strong>the</strong> Environment andCarlsberg Italia.Milan, 8 th October 2012The <strong>Italian</strong> Ministry gave birth to a Task Force that is working <strong>with</strong> <strong>companies</strong>, operating in Italy,which are benchmarks in <strong>the</strong>ir industrial sectors. Carlsberg Italia, for example, is <strong>the</strong> <strong>Italian</strong>excellence in <strong>the</strong> beer sector. Procedures for Product Environmental Management will be activatedby <strong>the</strong> factory inIndunoOlona (VA), where Carlsberg Italia operates through environmentalfootprint assessment of products life cycle and identification of measures for <strong>the</strong> optimization of <strong>the</strong>environmental performance. The working plan is involved in a previous sustainability programrealized by Carlsberg, that has brought an innovative draught beer technology, called“DraughtMaster”- <strong>with</strong>out any CO 2 component and employing recyclable PET beer kegs instead of“green” steel kegs.Part of <strong>the</strong> beer industry since 1975, Carlsberg gave start to a revolution in <strong>the</strong> beer market,developing and launching <strong>the</strong> DraughtMasterTM Modular 20. Gucci is <strong>the</strong> first company of <strong>the</strong> luxury industry to lead an evaluation of CO 2 emissions<strong>with</strong>in its supply chain in order to reduce <strong>the</strong>m and produce carbon neutral goods through high techand low-carbon best practices. To be more precise<strong>the</strong> definition of a methodology for <strong>the</strong> evaluation of a carbon footprint, specific for <strong>the</strong> InformationTechnology industry, is already scheduled.The above-mentioned agreement is directed to <strong>the</strong> diffusion of sustainable models of productionand consumption and to <strong>the</strong> analysis of GHG emissions reduction in two directions: impacts on

Two <strong>Italian</strong> <strong>companies</strong>, one belonging to <strong>the</strong> foodsector and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r to transportation, underwrite a <strong>voluntary</strong> agreement which shows <strong>the</strong>ircommitment for <strong>the</strong> reduction of CO 2 emissions in favor of sustainability thanks to <strong>the</strong> Program of<strong>the</strong> Ministry for <strong>the</strong> Environment. Giuseppe Sciarrone, managing director of NTV, and OscarFarinetti, President of Eataly, aim at evaluating and recording GHG emissions to reduce <strong>the</strong>m inrange of <strong>the</strong> strategies against climate change.In particular, Eataly Real Estate, <strong>the</strong> real estate company of Eataly Group, undertakes carbon andwater footprint assessment for <strong>the</strong> Green Retail Park project, that will be realized in Turin. NTV,instead, is going to evaluate <strong>the</strong> CO2 emissions of <strong>the</strong> route Rome-Turin covered by <strong>the</strong> train Italo.Oscar Farinetti has underlined <strong>the</strong> commitment of Eataly in favor of sustainability : “Eataly willbuild a huge project ‘of respect’ in Turin, called Green Retail Park. On <strong>the</strong> field where <strong>the</strong> stores ofCarpano Fabric will take form 10.500qm completely alimented by self-generated natural energy and<strong>with</strong> a beautiful green field as a roof. On <strong>the</strong> inside only ecological no food products will be sold:clothing, ‘green’ shoes, furniture made <strong>with</strong> natural and recycled materials, electrical and ecologicalcars.Italo is made <strong>with</strong> 98% of re cycling materials and its reduced weight (about less 70 tonne) allowsto use less 15% of energy per passenger in comparison <strong>with</strong> a traditional train. This means anannual eco save of 650.000 kWh over a segment f 500.000 km <strong>with</strong> consequent reduction of CO2emissions.”The program has <strong>the</strong> purpose to experiment on large scale <strong>the</strong> different methodologies of measuringenvironmental performances, taking into account <strong>the</strong> peculiarities of each economic sector in orderto balance and render <strong>the</strong>m replicable. The <strong>agreements</strong> signed today will allow <strong>the</strong> improvement of<strong>the</strong>se methodologies for retail sales and transports by rail.

Fashion and luxury choose to protect <strong>the</strong> environment.- VOLUNTARY AGREEMENT SAN BENEDETTO PETPress releaseENVIRONMENT: UNDERSIGNED UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN MINISTRY FORTHE ENVIRONMENT, REGION AND SAN BENEDETTO FOR THE PROJECT “NEWLIFE TO THE PET”Venice, 21th January 2013The project “New life to PET”, launched by Ministry for <strong>the</strong> Environment, Region Veneto andmineral water San Benedetto, results from a memorandum of understanding between <strong>the</strong> abovementioned parties, undersigned in Venice at PalzzoBalbi by Minister CorradoClini, President of <strong>the</strong>Region Veneto Luca Zaia and President of San Benedetto Enrico Zoppas.The aim of this project is to calculate <strong>the</strong> CO2 saving obtained encouraging new consumptionhabits aimed at collecting plastic bottles directly at <strong>the</strong> dealers, through <strong>the</strong> creation of a virtuouscycle that involves consumer, supplier, producer and recycling company, so that <strong>the</strong> materialrecovery and <strong>the</strong> recycling are enabled as a result.What makes this project important is <strong>the</strong> involvement of <strong>the</strong> whole supply chain and in particular of<strong>the</strong> consumer, who is called for being responsible and responsive to <strong>the</strong> environmental impact along<strong>the</strong> life cycle of a product.

The company is committed to define a methodology for <strong>the</strong>calculation of GHG emissions <strong>with</strong>in its own organization.With this understanding, <strong>the</strong> company streng<strong>the</strong>ns fur<strong>the</strong>r its will to reduce climate change, inaddition to <strong>the</strong> policy of environmental impact reduction along its supply chain during <strong>the</strong> phases ofgoods transport from <strong>the</strong> warehouse to <strong>the</strong> dealers in Italy, showing its commitment for <strong>the</strong>elaboration of a GHG emissions management system, valid for <strong>the</strong> big distribution sector and usefulto reduce one’s own emissions. Leroy Merlin is going to identify in particular <strong>the</strong> moreeconomically efficient interventions aimed at <strong>the</strong> GHG emissions reduction and to estimate <strong>the</strong>remaining emissions for <strong>the</strong>ir neutralization in <strong>the</strong> aftermath.Leroy Merlin is launching also several initiatives of information and promotion of products thataffect <strong>the</strong> environment, initiatives dedicated to its customers.
