Blanco also led a paneland presented her paper “The Rise <strong>of</strong> the Leftand the Determinants <strong>of</strong> Political Ideology inLatin America” at the Latin American StudiesAssociation meetings in Toronto, Canada. In addition, Blanco wasthe program chair for the Pacific Coast Council on Latin AmericanStudies (PCCLAS) Conference, which was held at the <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Public</strong> <strong>Policy</strong> (SPP) in November. Blanco organized a panel <strong>of</strong> SPPstudents for the PCCLAS conference and became the 2010-<strong>2011</strong>president for PCCLAS. Furthermore, Blanco’s article with MichelleIsenhouer (MPP ’08), “Powering America: The Impact <strong>of</strong> EthanolProduction in the Corn Belt States,” was published in the Novemberissue <strong>of</strong> Energy Economics. Simon Distinguished Visiting Pr<strong>of</strong>essors.Victor Davis Hanson is the Martin andIllie Anderson Senior Fellow in Residencein Classics and Military History at theHoover Institution at Stanford <strong>University</strong>;Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Emeritus <strong>of</strong> Classics atCalifornia State <strong>University</strong>, Fresno; and theWayne and Marcia Buske DistinguishedFellow in History at Hillsdale College.Among numerous awards, honors, andfellowships, Hanson was awarded theNational Humanities Medal in 2007 andthe Bradley Prize in 2008. Hanson is theauthor <strong>of</strong> hundreds <strong>of</strong> articles, book reviews, scholarly papers,and newspaper editorials on matters ranging from ancientGreek, agrarian, and military history to foreign affairs, domesticpolitics, and contemporary culture. Hanson received a BA fromthe <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> California, Santa Cruz, in 1975, attended theAmerican <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Classical Studies, and received a PhD inclassics from Stanford <strong>University</strong> in 1980. He is teaching the“Seminar in Political Issues: Master and Commanders: PoliticalLeadership in Peace and War, Ancient, and Modern.”Robert Tamura is a pr<strong>of</strong>essor in theJohn E. Walker Department <strong>of</strong> Economicsat Clemson <strong>University</strong> in Clemson, SouthCarolina. Previously he served as avisiting scholar at the Federal ReserveBank <strong>of</strong> Atlanta, assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor atthe <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Iowa, and as a ResearchFellow at the National Bureau <strong>of</strong> EconomicResearch. Tamura was the John StaufferNational Fellow <strong>of</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Policy</strong> at theHoover Institution at Stanford <strong>University</strong>from 1993 to 1994. He is a member <strong>of</strong>the American Economic Association, Econometric Society,the Society for Economic Dynamics, and the Society <strong>of</strong> LaborEconomists. Tamura has authored numerous articles in theJournal <strong>of</strong> Law and Economics, Journal <strong>of</strong> Economic Dynamicsand Control, Journal <strong>of</strong> Political Economy, and the Journal <strong>of</strong>Economic Growth, among others. Tamura received a PhD andMA in economics from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Chicago and a BS inmathematics and economics from the College <strong>of</strong> William andMary. He is teaching the “Seminar in Economic Policies: Long-Term Economic Development: 10,000 BC to the Present.”The William E.
