Andrew Y<strong>at</strong>esAbout Conspir areThe word “conspirare” derives from <strong>the</strong> L<strong>at</strong>in “con” and “spirare”transl<strong>at</strong>ed as “to bre<strong>at</strong>he toge<strong>the</strong>r.”<strong>Conspirare</strong> was founded in 1991 as <strong>the</strong> New Texas Festival to present asummer classical music festival in Austin, Texas. Since <strong>the</strong>n, <strong>the</strong> organiz<strong>at</strong>ionhas grown rapidly to become an intern<strong>at</strong>ionally recognized, professionalchoral organiz<strong>at</strong>ion th<strong>at</strong> combines outstanding vocal artistry with innov<strong>at</strong>iveprogramming. Led by founder and artistic director Craig Hella Johnson,<strong>Conspirare</strong> is comprised of two performing ensembles and an educ<strong>at</strong>ionalprogram. A chamber choir (“<strong>Conspirare</strong>”) of extraordinarily talentedsingers from around <strong>the</strong> country is presented in an annual concert series inAustin, o<strong>the</strong>r Texas communities, and loc<strong>at</strong>ions in <strong>the</strong> U.S. and abroad.The <strong>Conspirare</strong> Symphonic Choir of both professional and volunteer singersperforms <strong>at</strong> least one large choral/orchestral work annually. The <strong>Conspirare</strong>Youth Choirs is an educ<strong>at</strong>ion and performance program for singers ages 8-16,who learn and perform in two separ<strong>at</strong>e ensembles, Kantorei and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Conspirare</strong>Children’s Choir.<strong>Conspirare</strong> produced its first commercial recording, through <strong>the</strong> green fuse,in 2004 on <strong>the</strong> Clarion Records label.
