Editor’s Welcome…Ben Peacock U6R1It most certainly seems that Geography at Habs is continuing to thrive and this has been captured beautifullywithin these pages. The range of exciting environmental, social, economic and political Geography containedwithin this, the 5 th edition of Habs Geographical, demonstrates the encouragingly wide range of geographicalinterests that boys and staff at Habs have.Particular congratulations are due to Jordan Bernstein (9R1) for his prize-winning article on Lost Geography. Itis the second time that the best article prize has been awarded to a pupil below the GCSE years and it bodeswell for the future of Geography at Habs. A further insight into the diverse geographical interests of Habs staffis revealed through the highly eloquent interviews given by Dr Craig (Senior Master) and Mr Taberner, who isnew to the Geography department this academic year.Habs Geographical is about to undergo a change in personnel, with Ned Birss of the Lower Sixth taking up thereigns as Editor. I have every confidence that he will do a sterling job. He has a fantastic editorial team withwhich to work, and I must take this opportunity to thank each and every member of that team for their tirelesssupport of Habs Geographical over the past two years. I am also extremely grateful to the two very supportiveHeads of Geography that I have had the privilege of working with in Mr Maguire and Mr Pitt.When I established Habs Geographical in August 2010, my primary aims were to promote Geography at Habsto all year groups and to add an extra dimension to the Geography department. Through its foundation andgrowth, I would like to think that we have, as a team, gone a significant way to achieving these aims. I amalso confident that future editorial teams will continue to work towards these goals with equal enthusiasm.I have enjoyed thoroughly every minute of editing Habs Geographical over the past two years. To have seen itgrow in stature has been immensely satisfying. It has been a long and very exciting journey. As I bow out, Iwould like to wish sincerely the magazine and its future editorial teams every success for the future.Ben Peacock U6R1EditorEndorsement from the Head of GeographySo here it is: the end of an era. This is Ben Peacock’s final edition as editor of Habs Geographical. Afterfive high quality issues of the magazine, Ben is handing over editing duties and I must offer my sincerestthanks for the amazing hard work and dedication that has gone into the foundation, realisation and constructionof this magazine over the past two years. Ben has set the standards high for his successor andthis current magazine is testament to the quality that we have come to expect from this Geographicaljournal; HDI critiquing, Body Shop analysing, Geography as a lost discipline, the magic of weather stationsand why Geography should be compulsory at iGCSE (a boy’s opinion, just in case I get told off forsaying this in writing) plus much much more. The articles that have been submitted are (as we shouldexpect from this school) a very high standard and include two exclusive reports on Global Warming andrainforest ecosystems, so sit down, put your feet up, grab your nice nutritious can of Red Bull and readthe educational wonder that is Habs Geographical.
