Local Employersand BusinessesMobilizing a Coalition to Focus on Financial EducationA group of 12 local organizations and businesseshave joined forces with KCR to address financialliteracy and education issues in <strong>Kitsap</strong> County.From Earned Income Tax Credit informationoutreach to financial classes that help participantsrebuild credit, build a better budget, and preventidentity theft, the Asset Building Coalition (ABC)of <strong>Kitsap</strong> is serving the community with its pooledresources.Weatherization Services Poised toProvide “Green Jobs”KCR has been weatherizing homes of low-income <strong>Kitsap</strong> residents for 30 years. We have thecertified staff, technology, and systems in place to identify eligible families, audit homes, coordinateinstallation of energy and safety measures through our trained contractors, and inspect the work toensure all standards are being met.In addition to saving energy, the weatherization program tests for carbon monoxide and lead,repairs faulty heating systems, and makes seniors’ homes more comfortable and accessible.This program is supported by the <strong>Community</strong> Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, PugetSound Energy, and the State Energy Matchmaker Program.With the expected funds from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in 2009, KCR expectsto double the number of households it can reach with weatherization measures and increaserelated jobs.From Left to Right.Deonne Edwards, <strong>Kitsap</strong> CreditUnion; Kristi Basse, KCR; JaneBradley from DSHS, CharmaineScott, KCR; Lori Oberlander,Habitat for Humanity; Dave Foote,United Way of <strong>Kitsap</strong> County;Alex Boede, Bremerton HousingAuthority; Stuart Walton;Washington CASH; Larry Eyer,KCR.
