Joseph’s <strong>Academy</strong> graduates love to get together, whether it’s for a dinner withclassmates or a three-day weekend of fun with other alumnae and their families. Thisfall and winter, alumnae have enjoyed reconnecting in cities across the state and thecountry.ChicagoWashington, D.C.When <strong>St</strong>. Joseph’s <strong>Academy</strong>and Catholic HighSchool embarked upontheir annual Thanksgivingexcursion to Washington,D.C., with members of thetwo schools’ junior classes,school administrators andfaculty/staff members took the opportunityto visit with graduates living in thearea.Nine SJA alumnae and nine graduatesof CHS met at Joe Theismann’s restaurantin Alexandria, Virginia, for brunchand reminiscing with one another andLafayetteschool representatives.Representing SJA at the reunion werePrincipal Linda Fryoux Harvison, Alum-faculty member Holly Randow. The get-togetherwas held in September prior to the CHS-<strong>St</strong>. Thomas Morefootball game. Visitors enjoyed jambalaya and catching upwith administrators and faculty/staff members. The group celebratedmass at <strong>St</strong>. scholars...volunteers...friendsCamilla Pugh To Be Honored as Distinguished GraduateCamilla Rachal Pugh, a 1959 graduate of<strong>St</strong>. Joseph’s <strong>Academy</strong>, will be the recipientof the 2010-<strong>2011</strong> Distinguished GraduateAward for SJA when the Catholic Schools its annual Distinguished Graduates Awardsprogram. The event will take place on Feb-Following high school, Camilla attendedLSU, majoring in French. She was a memberof the College Bowl Team. After graduation,she taught French for many years at the<strong>Academy</strong>, Trafton <strong>Academy</strong> and LSU; uponher retirement, she returned to LSU to earnher doctorate in medieval French literature.Camilla is dedicated to her family. Sheis a doting grandmother, taking her grandchildrento school most mornings. She picksthem up most afternoons to enable them toenjoy extra-curricular activities. This investmentof time mirrors her involvement in herchildren’s lives. She was a tireless volunteer ather four children’s elementary school, servingas coach, homeroom reader and GirlScout leader and providing piano accompanimentfor all school shows, musicals andChristmas pageants.She takes care of and visits her mother,currently recovering from a fractured hip.For her children, brother and sister, cousinsand other family members, she is an encouraging,supportive and loving force in all endeavors.Camilla is an active member of her churchparish. She has served as a Eucharistic ministerand a pianist and organist for Christchoirs and recently joined her church choirin Paris, where she spends considerable time.She also served on fundraising committeesSacred Heart Community Center.The greater Baton Rouge community unteerservice, as well. She has been activein the Junior League and has delivered foodEast Baton Rouge Parish Prison and workedto make transitional housing available forrecently released prisoners.She sponsoreda Vietnamese refugeefamily through thediocese and providesChristmas gifts forneedy children. Sheworked with the BatonRouge Foundationto establish scholar-Camilla Rachal Pughship funds to allow underprivileged childrento attend SJA and Catholic High.She was instrumental in starting France-Louisiane, a group dedicated to fostering andgrowing the connection between France andLouisiana. She hosts art exhibits in her hometo support the arts and individual artists andhas been active with the Baton Rouge Symphonyand Baton Rouge Art Gallery.At the time of her husband’s death, hehad an extensive hobby train set. She donatedthe collection to Our Lady of the Lake installed in the Children’s Hospital currentlybeing planned.Graduates CelebrateSix-Month ReunionSix-month reunion planning committee chairs were JulieDucote Young ’81, Lauren Young ’10, Kimberly Kwan’10 and Kim Wong Kwan ’79. of 2010 returned to campus on December17 for their six-month reunion.
