North Central also got fourth in 1984 and Millikinplaced third in 1985.IWU vs. WISCONSIN-STEVENS POINT: The Titans are 1-1 in the series against thePointers… IWU lost at Stevens Point, 75-51 in the 2004-05 season and won at the ShirkCenter by an 80-63 score in 2005-06… The Pointers (26-3) defeated Concordia (Wis.) by a78-58 score to earn their spot in the sectional…Wis.-Stevens Point is led by Britta Petersenwith 14.4 points per game and Jessi Sporle adds 10.5 points…The Pointers have won twoDivision III championships (1987, 2002) and are in the tourney for the second straight yearand sixth time overall.IWU vs. COLLEGE OF ST. BENEDICT: If the teams play each other it wouldbe the first meeting between the two schools in women’s basketball… TheCollege of Saint Benedict upset No. 10-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater 67-59 inits second round game. Senior ArielTauer had a double-double, scoring acareer-high 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Amy Stifter contributed 15points, while Laura Canton had 11 points and Danielle Frank grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Stifter, Cantonand Frank are all sophomores.IWU vs. WASHINGTON U.: <strong>Illinois</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong> defeated Washington U., 72-69 in the secondgame of the season (Nov. 22) at the Washington (Mo.) tournament and trails the seriesagainst the Bears, 15-3, dating back to 1984-85 season… The Titans have won two straightagainst the Bears, winning by a 69-51 score in 2007-08, and also beat the Bears, 73-58, athome in 1994-95…If the teams play it would be the fourth time in an <strong>NCAA</strong> tournamentsetting…Washington U., making its record 20th-consecutive appearance in the <strong>NCAA</strong>tournament, improved to 46-17 all-time in postseason play with an 83-57 home court win over Transylvania lastSaturday. The Bears are making their 12th sectional appearance in school history, and first since 2007, whenthey were the national runner-up.


WE’RE NUMBER ONE: For the ninth straight week, IWU is No. 1 in both <strong>NCAA</strong> Division III polls. The Titans areNo. 1 in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Top 25 coaches’ poll (10 first place votes) released March 1. WhenIWU topped this poll on Jan. 6, it was the first time a CCIW women’s basketball team was No. 1 in any poll sinceMillikin (D3Hoops.com, Dec. 4, 2005)...For the sixth straight week, IWU is No. 1 (with all 25 first place votes) inthe D3Hoops.com top 25 poll (March 1).WINNING STREAK: With 29 in a row, IWU has a new school record for consecutive basketball victories. The1996 men’s team won 20 straight and the men’s record is 24, started at the end of the 1934-35 season (last twogames), continued into 1935-36 (20-0) and ended in 1936-37 (first two games before loss at Long Island U.,coached by Hall of Famer Clair Bee).SCHOOL RECORD FOR WINS: The Titans have 29 victories this season, topping the school record for winswhen the Titans were 26-3 last season…The old single-season mark for wins prior to 2008 was 22, set when the2007 team was 22-6. The mark before that was 20, a record shared by three teams: 1994 (20-5), 1995 (20-6),and 2003 (20-9)…The IWU men’s basketball team was 29-2 in winning the <strong>NCAA</strong> Division III nationalchampionship in 1997 and was 28-3 in finishing third in the nation in 1996.NO LOSSES: Six college teams in the nation are undefeated (through March 9) - Division III <strong>Illinois</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong>and George Fox (28-0) and Division I Connecticut (31-0) for women’s hoops and Division II Findlay (30-0) andLong Island-C.W. Post (27-0) and Division III St. Thomas (29-0) for the men…<strong>Illinois</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong> is the first team towin the CCIW championship with an unbeaten record since Millikin was 14-0 in 1998 and the feat has onlyhappened one other time – when Augustana ran the table in 1991 with a 16-0 mark…Since 1982 only five teamshave gone unbeaten in winning the Division III title: Capital (33-0, 1995), Wis.-Oshkosh (31-0, 1996), WashingtonU. (30-0, 1999 and 30-0, 2000) and Howard Payne (33-0, 2008).HOME COOKING: <strong>Illinois</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong> has a 13-0 record at home this year and is 128-46 (.736 winning percentage)since the building opened in 1994.3-POINTERS: <strong>Illinois</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong> has made a 3-pointer in 130 consecutive games dating back to Feb. 1, 2005 (vs.Wheaton).CCIW POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT: This was the seventh year for the College Conference of <strong>Illinois</strong> andWisconsin to determine its automatic qualifier to the <strong>NCAA</strong> Division III Women's Basketball Championship byplaying a postseason tournament…IWU has a 9-3 record in CCIW postseason play – winning the tournament in2009, 2008 and 2003 and finishing second in 2005, 2006 and 2007…This year, IWU beat North Central andCarthage to win the title…In 2008, IWU beat Elmhurst, 78-57, in the first round and beat Millikin, 75-64, in the titlegame…In 2003, IWU beat Augustana, 68-59, in the first round and topped Wheaton, 54-53, for the title…In 2005,IWU beat Augustana, 75-73, in the semifinal and lost to Millikin, 82-64…In 2006, the Titans beat North Park, 49-46, in round one and lost to Wheaton, 74-60, in the championship game…In 2007 IWU beat Millikin, 83-67 in thefirst round and lost to Wheaton, 54-49, in the championship game.CCIW RECORDS: The Titans had two individual and two team records in CCIW play this year. IWU’s current CCIWwinning streak of 26 betters the old mark of 25 by Augustana (1990-92) and the Titans’ winning margin of 28.6points tops Millikin’s 1993-94 standard of 24.3.MARGIN OF VICTORY: <strong>Illinois</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong> set a CCIW record with the 57-point win (109-52 over Augustana onJan. 21). The record was 56 when Millikin downed Wheaton, 100-44, in 1989 and the IWU school record is 78when the Titans beat Elms, 105-27, in 2002-03…The Titans topped the 100 mark three games this year, winning101-53 over Fontbonne (Dec. 19) and 101-57 vs. Wheaton (Feb. 14).REGIONAL RANKINGS: <strong>Illinois</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong> was No. 1 in the Feb. 18 <strong>NCAA</strong> Division III Central Region rankings.The rest of the top six (in order) are Wis.-Whitewater, Wis.-Stevens Point, Washington-St. Louis, Wis.-Eau Claireand St. Norbert.


CHRISTINA SOLARI: Conference “Player of the Year” and a first team all-CCIW selection this season…Hasbroken her own school record for rebounds in a season (old was 284) and also set new mark with 63 steals (oldwas 60 by her last season)…Needs three more free throw attempts and nine more made free throws to becomeschool season record holder in those categories…Has been team’s leading scorer eight times this season and toprebounder in 24 games…Has had 13 “double-doubles” (points/rebounds) this year and 22 in the past twoseasons…Has had double figure rebounds in 14 games, with a high of 18 (at Wheaton), tied for third best in anIWU game…Led CCIW with 9.9 rebounds per game and second in FG percentage (.635)…CCIW “Player of theWeek” twice this year… Currently fourth in nation in FG percentage (.624) and 50th in rebounds per game.CLAIRE SHEEHAN: First team all-CCIW selection this season…One of 42 finalists for the Women’s BasketballCoaches Association 2009 State Farm Coaches’ All-America Basketball Team for <strong>NCAA</strong> Division III. Sheehan isone of five from region seven and the 10-member All-America team will be chosen in voting by WBCA membercoaches in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions, are now in the running for selection to the 10-memberState Farm Coaches’ All-America Team. ..Has been team’s leading scorer eight times this season and has doublefigures 24 games including the last six…High game of 24 vs. Fontbonne (12/19/08)…CCIW “Player of the Week”twice this season.SHEEHAN A JOSTENS FINALIST: Claire Sheehan is one of 10 women’s finalists for the Jostens Trophy,recognizing the outstanding student-athlete in Division III basketball. The Jostens Trophy is a national awardcreated in 1998 by the Salem (Va.) Rotary Club to honor the most outstanding men and women’s Division IIIbasketball players of the year. The award takes into account three vital parts: basketball ability, academicprowess and community service. The trophy models the Rotary motto of “Service above Self” by recognizingthose who truly fit the ideal of the well-rounded Division III student-athlete. Sheehan is the first Titan women’sbasketball player to earn the Jostens distinction. Korey Coon was the 2000 Jostens Trophy winner and was also afinalist in 1999 while Keelan Amelianovich was a Jostens finalist in 2006 and Zach Freeman was a finalist in2007. Sheehan has a 3.72 grade-point average as a biology major and will attend dental school this fall. A 35-person national selection committee will complete the selection process by picking a men and women’s JostensTrophy winner. The presentation is scheduled for March 19 at the Salem Civic Center in conjunction with theMen’s Division III Championship being hosted in Salem, Va., March 20-21.MALLORY HEYDORN: Was a first team all-conference selection this season…Also first team as a sophomoreand junior and second team as a freshman…Finished first in the league with 2.75 3-point field goals per gameand holds the league's career record with 141 3-point field goals…Has been team’s leading scorer seven timesthis season…High game of 28 vs. Maryville (12/6/08)…Missed six games with stress fracture of femur…Is eighthin <strong>NCAA</strong> Division III in assist/turnover ratio (2.52) and ranks 24th in 3-point field goals per game (2.7 …Career freethrow percentage of .835 is best at IWU for players who have made more than 100 (she is 137 of 164).DOUBLE VISION: Listed in the Washington U. media guide is freshman guard Brittany Hasselbring, whotransferred from the St. Louis school at the start of the second semester and is now a member of the <strong>Illinois</strong><strong>Wesleyan</strong> team.<strong>NCAA</strong> TEAM STATS: In the latest national <strong>NCAA</strong> Division III statistics (through March 1), the Titans are No. 1 inscoring margin (defeating opponents by 23.8 points) and ninth in 3-pointers per game (7.4), No. 3 in scoring(79.6), No. 13 in turnover margin (6.44) and No. 14 in assist/turnover ratio (1.02).
