1.3 GRAPHIC STANDARDS FOR THE WATERFRONT TRAILSYMBOLGraphic information (standard images, colours, proportions,spacing, logotype, secondary typeface, etc.) relating to the<strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Trail</strong> symbol (bird, leaf, fish), is specified in AppendixA - Graphic Standards for the Lake Ontario <strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Trail</strong>.1.4 FLEXIBILITY OF APPLICATION AND COSTING• Landscaped sites at major access points to the <strong>Waterfront</strong><strong>Trail</strong> that provide benches, bicycle racks, picnic tables, etc.• Bricks, pavers, boardwalk planks, etc., engraved with donornames.There are a number of sponsorship initiatives being pursued byboth the Trust and its local partners along the waterfront. It isimportant to use a coordinated approach in determining programsfor sponsor recognition, so that signage messages remain clearand concise.These <strong>Signage</strong> <strong>Guidelines</strong> have been designed to allow forflexibility of purpose and budget. Different levels of signage maybe preferred by each municipality through which the <strong>Waterfront</strong><strong>Trail</strong> travels. To assist in estimating <strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Trail</strong> signage costs,Chapter 5 of these guidelines includes approximate 2006 costestimates.1.5 DONOR AND SPONSOR RECOGNITIONDonor programs and sponsorship will continue to be partof the <strong>Waterfront</strong> Regeneration Trust’s funding strategy forfuture waterfront and <strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Trail</strong> projects. For example,the <strong>Waterfront</strong> Regeneration Fund, established in 1996 andadministered by the Trust, receives contributions to support therenewal of the Lake Ontario waterfront.The recognition package for sponsors and certain donors couldinclude a signage element, such as on major trailhead signs wheremunicipal by-laws allow sponsor recognition. Marketing strategieswill help to identify creative and alternative approaches. Possibleoptions, other than providing corporate names and logos ontrailhead signs, include:• Information kiosks that provide announcement space tocommunity groups for trail and waterfront activities.2-4 <strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Trail</strong> | Design, <strong>Signage</strong> and Maintenance Guideline Update
