Your connection to community
Our community is poised for dynamic
engagement and multifaceted
collaboration. Visionary leaders are
challenging timeworn beliefs and turgid
habits, and embracing innovation.
We look forward to the evolution of the
Jewish Community Association of Greater
Phoenix (formerly the Jewish Federation
of Greater Phoenix) as it defines and
begins to enact its vision for planning
and fundraising to meet local, national
and international needs. We at Jewish
News are eager to partner with the JCA in
engaging Valley Jews in community life.
Adult education is flourishing, with
courses hosted by the Arizona State
University Center for Jewish Studies,
Arizona Jewish Historical Society, Bureau
of Jewish Education, Valley of the Sun
Publisher's Letter
Jewish Community Center, Women’s
Jewish Learning Center, Valley Beit
Midrash and many religious institutions.
Young adult groups are drawing
hundreds of participants to connect with
one another and benefit the community.
The 20 graduates of the recent Wexner
Heritage Program are leaders of
community organizations. The 10 young
adults who began learning together
just one year ago in a Start Me Up!
leadership program are initiating projects
ranging from a community web portal to
storytelling to an arts and culture series.
One heartening development is the
teamwork of Jewish Family & Children’s
Service, the Board of Rabbis of Greater
Phoenix and the Orthodox Rabbinical
Council of Greater Phoenix to provide
community chaplaincy services.
Jewish News has covered the
community for 65 years in print and 17
years online. This Community Directory
is our 24th. Jewish News is the only
comprehensive local place to learn who’s
doing what and what’s going on. We
connect readers across the Valley —
young to elderly, religious and secular,
politically and culturally diverse.
“As a community, we are doing our part for
tikkun olam, a Jewish tradition to repair our
