Dan Meinking's Chess Problem Collectionrev. 03-May-2010This eco-friendly PDF is brought to you by Alpha Sleuth® :-)This collection presents 192 chess problems created (or co-created) by your humble correspondent over the span of roughly 30 years. Onlythe best of 300+ published works appear here. Problems aren't in any particular order. Each contains brief comments on its content.I've stored my personal collection in the excellent PDB (Problem Database) software for many years. A number of the selected problems citepredecessors listed on the PDB website. These references are in the form Pnnnnnnn, where nnnnnnn is the 7-digit PDB problem-ID.Simply click a particular Pnnnnnnn link to see that comparison problem. To see all problems of mine on the PDB website, click here. For those new to chess problems, I recommend the StrateGems website, in particular the Beginner's Corner forum which will help explainmuch of the terminology used herein. The vast majority of my problems are Helpmates. A fair number are of the Series-Movers andStalemates and Proof Games genres. And a still smaller group belong to Two Movers, Three Movers and Endgames genres. Thanks to Reb Orrell, who built and continues to maintain the StrateGems website, and to David L. Brown who developed the chess fonts forthe site and this document. For those curious, I have my own page on the site. You'll find an interesting chess game there as well. :-)Tournament chessplayers and chess composers are familiar with the World Chess Federation, known as FIDE. One of FIDE's memberorganizations, the Permanent Commission for Chess Composition (PCCC), produces a FIDE Album of the very best chess problemspublished in a specified 3-year period. FIDE Album selections are made by a panel of judges, and must meet strict guidelines. This collection denotes eleven "FIDE Album" entries published up to and including the period 1998-2000. The 2001-2003 Album, slated toappear soon, will have another 14 entries. Footnote: I did not submit problems for the 1995-1997 FIDE Album due to politics within thePCCC at the time -- a regrettable decision as this was one of my more prolific composing periods.May 3rd, 2010: In April 2009, I discovered a new genre known as "Parry Series". With this "release", I've added 16 parry series-moversthat have been published since then. Visit the Parry Series Hub for rules and related developments. For the record...1975: my first chess tournament1977: my first published problem1984: U.S. Master of Chess1985: U.S. Expert of Chess Composition1995: U.S. Master of Chess Composition2007: FIDE Master of Chess CompositionPlease use our Contact Us page if you find any errors, or additional comparison problems. I'll publish updates as needed.Enjoy!DanPS: To chess problem fanatics, or anyone who enjoys a fun solving challenge, I invite you to try Alpha Sleuth® puzzles!
