Recruitment<strong><strong>Scout</strong>ing</strong>Illustrations by Domnall Starkiewill be created online, reflecting their reason forwanting to join or enquiring about joining.<strong>The</strong> ‘want to’ audience will be people thatwe ask our existing members to target on socialnetworking sites such as Facebook. <strong>The</strong>y will wantto volunteer as they enjoy working with youngpeople and benefit from doing so.<strong>The</strong> second audience will be people who ‘needto’ gain experience of working with young peopleas part of their vocational needs. A large numberof youth work degrees will have a practical elementto them where people need to gain relevantexperience. Working within a <strong>Scout</strong> Group wouldtherefore be one way of gaining this. We will targetthese through specific Facebook groups such asPGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) groups,of which there are over 500.Look out in future editions of <strong><strong>Scout</strong>ing</strong> to seehow successful the campaign is and for othermarketing initiatives.Sharing an insight<strong>The</strong> annual Insight event took place inNovember, bringing together over 3018-25-year-olds from around the UK. <strong>The</strong>participants were asked their views on arange of subjects, from Programme Zonesto perceptions of young people, all of whichprovided an invaluable insight to theongoing work of UK Headquarters. At theend of the event (which included a taxingquiz) the focus groups presented theirfindings to an audience that included Chiefand UK Commissioners.www.scouts.org.uk/magazine 49
