(ibid.)“Share and win” is a slogan that is familiar to social network users and seems to have a deeper meaningfor companies. 65% of the firms surveyed by McKinsey believe that investments in Web 2.0technology will greatly increase in the next three years.Those who share will be the winners oftomorrow in terms of knowledge, resourcesand convictionA good third of all employers in the German speaking region seem to be dealing with similar considerations.The results of a telephone survey of around 600 companies in Germany, Austria andSwitzerland conducted as part of the NEW WORK ORDER study show that 35.8 per cent of allcompanies are currently gaining experience with Web 2.0 applications and social software for internalcommunication and project work. Blogs, forums, activity streams, social networks and companywikis are being used. The initial experiences have been positive, suggesting that these activitieswill be expanded.companies are currently not taking fulladvantage of the benefits of social softwareOne company that has seen positive results from working with social software is Deutsche Bank,whose IT workers connected via an unofficial platform in order to find joint solutions. An employeewho had developed a solution marked it with a particular hashtag and could then receiverecognition or suggestions for improvement. One practical aspect was that the author of each ideawas clearly indicated. The know-how that was shared via microblogging quickly reached about2,000 users and subsequently attracted the attention of the company’s decision-makers. With thesupport of the management board, the IT department then launched an official rollout of the programme“myDB”, which is now being used by 30,000 employees worldwide, most of them in IT.The programme has been a great success. A study has shown that 50% of all the questions askedwere answered within only 30 minutes.The top threemeasurable benefitsof social software are:quick access to knowledge(74%), reductionof transaction costs(58%) and faster accessto in-house expertise(51%).
