The first of threecaution periods in the race came on lap 10, and set the field for a double-file restart. Barton, Hartman, and Blosestayed ahead of the competition, as tenth starting Matt Lux advanced to fourth before the yellow flag waved again onlap 13.Again the field was stacked for a double-file restart, but this time Hartman used the outside groove to advance to thelead. Barton stayed low as Hartman showed the way, favoring the high groove. Lux advanced to third, as Blose andninth starting Mike Balzano held top five positions. The halfway mark came and passed, with Hartman showing a leadof a few car lengths. The two cars at the front seemed fairly equal, despite working different lanes around thespeedway. However, on lap 29, Barton quickly closed in on leader Hartman. Using the inside lane to perfection,Barton made the pass to regain the top spot on lap 30.Green flag racing continued with ten laps remaining. Lapped trafficbecame an issue for the first time at lap 34. At lap 36, Balzano grabbedfourth from Blose as the final yellow flag of the race appeared.
