This applies to any caregiver as well as to Stephen Minister caregivers. It also
applies to physical replenishment as well as spiritual (italics by Bob).
Via de Cristo means "the Way of Christ". It is a name used by
Lutherans for a movement of personal Christian renewal within
the Church. A Via de Cristo Retreat is an encounter with Christ,
in which the participant becomes a part of a community,
abounding in God’s grace. It enhances and strengthens our personal relationship
with Christ, with our Christian brothers and sisters, and with the Christian community.
The Via de Cristo Retreat is coming face to face with Christ. The Via de Cristo goals:
to change the world, to remake the world in Christ, and to restore all things to Christ.
Via de Cristo should be viewed as a movement, and not an organization. The Via de
Cristo, as a movement, means that it is an on-going process. The Via de Cristo
movement does not work directly with the problems of the church and society,
but works to form a group of people who can deal with these problems.
Hunger, disease, and housing continue to be significant needs of people throughout
the world. The ELCA World Hunger Appeal is one of the most cost-effective means of
providing direct support, education, and advocacy about hunger-related issues. One
of the Core Values we have discerned, named and claimed at Grace is “Serving
others with the heart of Christ.” Council has designated the first Sunday of each
month for a “Pocket Change Offering” to benefit the ELCA World Hunger Appeal.
Containers will be on each side of the nave. As you return from Communion, you are
invited to drop in your pocket change. (You can also drop in checks and bills as well.)
It may not be much, but it adds up. Thanks in advance for caring and sharing!
