DATA ACQUISITION

D1
Dataloggers
Applications
The D1 Logger is a rugged
measurement and control system that
delivers accurate, reliable measurements
in a variety of situations.
The D1 Logger combines the ability
to measure virtually all sensors
manufactured or supplied by Soil
Instruments with control capability to
respond to specifi c site conditions.
The system allows the utmost fl exibility
in methods to power the unit as well as
a variety of choices on how to retrieve
data, from direct connection through to
satellite communication. The datalogger
easily adapts to all conditions.
Together with an easily accessible
multiplexer, Soil Instruments can design
protection from lightning transients
with surge arrestors so that the sensors
and data are protected.
The datalogging system can be combined
with I-Site software to allow password
protected internet access to near real
time data from large or small projects.
D2
I-Site Software
Applications
The I-Site software suite is a dedicated
software package developed to allow
quick, easy interpretation of large
amounts of data. Designed to operate
with all the instruments manufactured
and supplied by Soil Instruments. In
addition, Robotic Total Stations and
survey data can be fully integrated.
I-Site is adaptable and can easily be
confi gured to diff erent project needs.
It provides a graphic or pictorial
overview of the site and contains a
highly advanced graphical engine
allowing graph parameters to be
changed with ease.
I-Site can be set up to replicate itself
to a password-protected website.
Full alarm and alert functionality are
included. It also contains fi elds for the
easy introduction of any calibration
factor or off set a sensor may require.
D3
Net-Site Web Based
Software
Applications
Net-Site is an internet software package
which replicates the graphical, graphing
and profi le capabilities of I-Site but in a
wholly web based environment.
Users log on to their dedicated Net-Site
job using a unique site code and
password. Once logged on, they can
view Maps, Charts and Profi les for all
their projects set up within the Net-Site
database. Net-Site is designed to remove
the need for a dedicated PC on site.
Data are automatically uploaded to the
web and processed ready for instant
access to Net-Site users.
Access to Net-Site is possible from any
internet enabled PC.
As with I-Site, Net-Site can process
and display data from any instrument
manufactured by Soil Instruments as
well as data from Robotic Total Stations.
Full click and zoom as well as alarm
functionality exists within Net-Site,
these major I-Site features are not
downgraded for Net-Site users.
Net-Site is available on a monthly fee
basis and is run on a dedicated server
suite in the UK, with 24/7 backup
(web-server only). There is no
practical limit to the number of sensors
which can be included.
CA1
Instrument
Cable
Applications
Instrumentation used to measure the
performance and safety of structures
requires secure connections between
the sensors and the readout locations.
It is essential that adequate
consideration is given to the cables.
Soil Instruments uses the highest quality
cables, manufactured to British and EC
standards. They have excellent electrical
properties, are waterproof and suitable
for burial in soil or concrete over long
periods of time.
Typically, the cables are armoured
(especially in earth dams) with a high
resistance to tensile loading; PVC
sheathing provides waterproofi ng
(although other jackets are available)
and shielded pairs with individual
drain wires provide for electrical
noise protection.
Cables with 2 to 48 conductors
are available.
CF2
Wireless Network
Module
Applications
The Soil Instruments Wireless Network
Module is a low cost Wireless Enabled
Data Logging Module capable of reading
all sensors in the Soil Instruments
product range.
Containing a full suite of signal
processors, ADCs, fl ash memory,
ancillary device drivers and self
diagnostic facilities, as well as a
programmable Microcontroller allowing
for the addition of custom fi rmware
routines, the module can be rapidly
adapted to measure almost any sensor
type required. Its high specifi cation
components and thoroughly tested
design mean that it matches or betters
traditional dataloggers in terms of
resolution, accuracy and stability.
The module receives commands and
reports its information back via a
wireless mesh network, with each
module a transceiver unit acting as an
intelligent repeater within the network.
In this way information can be relayed
to more remote modules
or automatically rerouted
around major obstructions.
This means that as a site
develops, the network
automatically adapts to
the changing construction
environment, ensuring that
uninterrupted access to your
data is maintained throughout
the duration of the project.
Every module has a serial port
which allows for easy connection
with any laptop, datalogger,
readout unit or off site telemetry
equipment, such as a GPRS modem.
From any serial port, every module
on the network can be queried and
controlled, calibration records uploaded
and stored, historical data retrieved and
logging parameters altered, allowing for
sites to be administered from accessible
locations, positions of safety, or even
from the offi ce.
