Quito, June 27, 2011Rotary Club Rancho BernardoSan Diego- CaliforniaMr. Ed KnightCLUB ROTARIO QUITO NORTEwww.rotaryquitonorte.orgDear Rotarian:We would like to inform you that our Rotary Club Quito Norte, District 4400in Quito, Ecuador installed 54 water treatment units during the period2005-2011. The main purpose of these projects is to contribute to healthand well being, especially of children, and general population of rural areas. These projects are developed thanks to financing received from 9 MatchingGrants and the contribution of an enterprise in Quito. With these projectswe reached 31559 inhabitants, mostly children and young adults ofelementary schools and high schools with very low income resources andwho live in remote rural towns of the Province of Pichincha in Ecuador. These towns experience a lack of basic services and, as mentioned above, acomplete lack of drinking water. The members of the communities where we install the drinking watersystems sign a document agreeing to report on the operation of thesystems, at least every three months, indicating the state of the systemsand maintenance or repairs of the installed equipment. As a follow up of the conditions and operation of the systems, in Novemberlast year, we hired a specialized company to evaluate the conditions andoperations of all systems installed during the last 5 years and to report onthe fulfillment of the duties delegated to educational institutions officersfor a proper maintenance and operation of the systems. Following is asummary of the conclusions of the report presented by the evaluators.Gonzalo Vivero LoayzaPresidente 2010 - 2011

CLUB ROTARIO QUITO NORTEwww.rotaryquitonorte.orgOnly 3 of the 54 inspected systems showed a serious lack of organizationon the part of the communities, therefore the officials recommended thatmeetings be held with members of our Rotary Club and leaders of thecommunity in order to try to solve existing problems. To date two of thethree problems have been satisfactorily resolved.Based on these results we would like to report that 94% of the installedsystems are operating normally, this shows that the efforts of Rotary ClubQuito Norte in the installation and follow up of pure potable water projectsin Ecuador has been successful.Rotary Club Quito Norte is most thankful to you for the financialcontribution to the development of humanitarian projects, allowing ourClub to contribute to basic needs of the rural population, fulfilling, therefore, our common rotary mission.Enclosed, please find a copy in Spanish of SEHICOCI inspection report. Also, we are sending attached to this message a summary in English withthe results of the inspections, a table showing the completed water systemswith the names of all the clubs and districts, and the company in Ecuador, that contributed with generous financial resources that made possible theinstallation of these humanitarian water projects.Sincerely,ROTARY CLUB QUITO NORTEGonzalo Vivero Gustavo Alzate Gustavo GonzálezPresident Fund Raiser Committee Community Service ChairmanGonzalo Vivero LoayzaPresidente 2010 - 2011
