Installation instructions1 Using the pipe cut templateprovided mark the pipe throughthe slits.12 Using a suitable tool cut outthe marked section and removeburrs.3 Fit the isolation valves providedonto both inlet and outlet pipes inthe following sequence:2a. Slide the isolation valve nutson to pipes.b. Position olives on the pipes.c. Loosely position isolationvalves onto the outer nuts.d. Fit valve seals in place.3e. Introduce the port block,ensuring the directional arrowfollows the heating system flow,and tighten inner nuts fully.outer nutinner nutinner nutouter nutf. This is supplied pre-fitted.Fit the filter body to the portblock by hand tightening the portblock locking collar.4Do not overtighten.Before proceeding ensurethat the drain valve is in theclosed position and the bowl isfirmly hand tightened.5 Open isolation valves.Turn on heating system.56 Open air vent to releaseresidual airClose air vent.6N.B. Run the heating system atoperating temperature. Cleaning / servicingCleaning and servicing must only be carried out bya qualified person in accordance with all relevantcurrent regulations.To maintain optimum efficiency we recommend cleaningis carried out annually.Ensure you have a container available to hold a minimum<strong>of</strong> 750ml.1 Isolate the heating system andclose both isolation valves. Openthe air vent in the top <strong>of</strong> the filter.12 Unscrew the drain valve keyfrom the base and push fit ontothe drain valve. Open the drainvalve and fully drain contents intothe container. Close the drainvalve and place drain valve keyback in original position. Closevent.3 Using the bowl spannerprovided unscrew the bowllocking collar releasing the bowlfrom the lid.2Pull out the cartridge (shown inFig. 4 overleaf).Rinse out the bowl.All non-magnetic contaminantis collected in the bottom <strong>of</strong> thebowl. This should be emptied andany retained contaminant shouldbe rinsed <strong>of</strong>f if necessary. Checkthe mesh filter in the cartridgefor blockages.311www.boilermag.com 0114 225 0624


Cleaning / servicing (contd)4 Magnetic contamination (blacksludge) will be held around thecentre <strong>of</strong> the cartridge.45 Hold over a suitable container.Using the dual purpose bowlspanner / cleaning tool providedslide the contamination depositsto the top <strong>of</strong> the cartridge.5Ensure that the bulk <strong>of</strong> thecontamination is removed, itis not essential to remove allcontamination.Do not use any sharp or abrasiveobject to clean the cartridge.12A world leader in magnetic technology


6 Replace the cartridge backinto the bowl ensuring that the 3cartridge splines are aligned tothe grooves in the bowl wall asshown.67 Check that the pre-fitted 'sealis still seated correctly. Holdthe bowl to the lid ensuring thespigots on each are aligned thenhand tighten the bowl lockingcollar.7Do not overtighten.Open the isolation valves.8 Open the air vent to release anytrapped air.Close the air vent.Turn on heating system.8N.B. Chemical dosingUsing BoilerMag as a chemicaldosing entry point.Method 1Isolate the boiler. Close isolationvalves.1Release air pressure by openingthe drain valve (as shown in step2 on page 11). No need to drainfully. Close drain valve.1 Remove air vent central screw.2 Connect dosing device.Open outlet isolation valve. Dosechemical into the system.2Close the outlet isolation valve.Remove the dosing device.Replace air vent central screw.Open both isolation valves.Turn on heating system to flush.Vent if required.Method 2Drain the BoilerMag unit fully byfollowing steps 1 to 2 on page 11.33 Fully remove the air vent.4 Dose chemicals through theair vent hole using a funnel.Maximum capacity 500ml.Once dosing is complete replacethe air vent. Open both isolationvalves.Turn on heating system to flush.Vent system if required.144Do not allow chemicalsto remain static in theBoilerMag for long periods.A world leader in magnetic technology


System flushingThis pack does not contain theflush attachment (left). This isavailable separately from yourBoilerMag supplier. Productcode: BMFA.To flush system followinstructions 1 to 2 on page 11.1 Unscrew the port block collarto release the BoilerMag filter.12 Fit the flush adaptor to the portblock by hand tightening the portblock locking collar.Do not overtighten.23 Fit hoses to the flushingadaptor and open the isolationvalves.3Complete flushing, closeisolation valves, remove hosesand unscrew the flush adaptorfrom the port block.Follow steps 4 to 6 on page 10 toreassemble.15www.boilermag.com 0114 225 0624


TroubleshootingBy following these instructions carefully any operationalproblems will be avoided. In the rare instances whereproblems occur there is <strong>of</strong>ten a simple solution.Water is leaking from the BoilerMag.Turn <strong>of</strong>f the system, close the isolation valves. Performthe following checks:a. Check all seals for location and condition. Pleasecontact us for replacements.b. Check the isolation valve nuts to ensure they are fullytightened.c. Ensure the drain valve is fully closed.d. Check the bowl locking collar is firmly tightened andnot cross threaded.e. Check the port block locking collar is firmlytightened and not cross threaded.Port block cannot be located onto the isolation valves.Remove valves and re-cut the pipe to the correct length.Cartridge will not fit back into the bowl.Ensure correct alignment <strong>of</strong> the 3 cartridge splines andbowl grooves. See step 6 on page 13.Mesh filter is blocked, do I need to replace it?No, simply rinse out any contamination to unblock.Inlet and outlet pipes are not vertical.BoilerMag can be fitted to any pipework orientation.Simply loosen the port block locking collar, ensurethe BoilerMag is vertical and align the inlet and outletpoints to the pipework.If you have any questions please contact the BoilerMagservice line 0114 225 0624.16A world leader in magnetic technology
