DATASHEETMEMS InclinometerSPIRAL SENSORApplications~ Determining spiral deformationof inclinometer casingFeaturesThe MEMS Inclinometer Spiral Sensor is used to determine downholehelical deformation of installed inclinometer casing. Installedcasing spiral is a function of the manufacturing process, casingcoupling, and installation technique.Best casing installation practice requires that the casing be installedwith the correct azimuth from the start and throughout theinstallation, with no torque applied either intentionally or otherwiseduring the installation. Such carefully installed inclinometer casingwould typically maintain groove azimuth to within a few degrees over30 meters. However, for very deep installations, or installations wheretwist due to installation problems is suspected, the Digital MEMSInclinometer Spiral Sensor permits measurement of the installedgroove azimuth down-hole.Operation is similar to the Digital Inclinometer, using the same cable, reel, and hand-held readout. It is only necessary to read one dataset; no 180 degree second reading set is required. Typically thismeasurement is only performed once in the life of the hole, as thecasing is torsionally restrained by the backfill, typically grout.Inclinalysis Inclinometer Software processes the resulting spiraldata set.The Digital Inclinometer Spiral Sensor is supplied in a robust carryingcase.~ ‘Hot swap’ capability with DigitalInclinometer System - simplyconnect the probe to the reel’sconnector and prepare for spiralreadings on the spot~ No additional software required- Inclinalysis Software usedfor RST’s Digital InclinometerSystem doubles as the methodof processing spiral data~ Compact and lightweight designensures spiral surveys in allcasing orientations - unlike bulkytraditional probes~ The use of an inertial sensor tomeasure the groove azimuthvariation elimates errors due to:- sensor offset- wheel/groove clearance- friction- magnetic declinationWIRELESSTECHNOLOGYExclusive European & MENA Distributor for RST InstrumentsA division ofMarton Geotechnical Services LtdNova House, Rougham Industrial Estate, Rougham, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk IP30 9ND, Englandwww.mgsgeosense.co.uk e info@mgsgeosense.co.uk t +44(0)1359 270457 f +44(0)1359 272860
