MissionHome of the <strong>IUC</strong>Don FranaBulića 4The Inter-University Centre Dubrovnik (<strong>IUC</strong>) isan independent international institution foradvanced studies. Its objective is to encourage,promote and implement cooperation amongstudents and scholars through projects, studyprogrammes, courses and conferences across awide range of academic concerns. Over the years,more than 60,000 scholars and students camefrom universities and other scientific institutionsworldwide. Founded in 1971, at the height of theCold War, the <strong>IUC</strong> became an important venue for the exchange of ideasacross various divides, between East and West, North and South.Based in Dubrovnik, formerly a self-governing Mediterranean city-state atthe crossroads of varying cultural and political concerns, the <strong>IUC</strong> is buildingon its achievements and traditions in facing new challenges in a rapidlychanging global environment. Maintaining high standards of free andindependent scholarship, the <strong>IUC</strong> is dedicated to network building forpeaceful co-existence and pluralism regionally as well as internationally.Main Topics are: SE Europe studies – philosophy – conflict & peace –information sciences – life sciences – mediterrainean studies – public health– reconstruction of science and higher education in the region – regions andregionalism – post-conflict reconciliation.<strong>Academic</strong> <strong>Programme</strong>The main <strong>IUC</strong> activities are courses and conferences.Courses are of postgraduate level andtreat topics of high international scientific oracademic interest. They normally last one or twoweeks. The organizers and teaching staff areselected for their expertise and academicstanding, and come from a diversity of countriesand backgrounds. Students coming from manyparts of the world expected to be of graduatestanding; they apply through course directors ordirectly to the <strong>IUC</strong> Secretariat. Conferences normally last at least for a fewdays. The <strong>IUC</strong> welcomes proposals to develop new international graduatecourses and conferences in all academic fields.
