P. Dubey, Sc. ‘E’ M.C. Bhopal was nominated asa panel member for selection of research fellows forPh.D. in Physics in the Barkatullah University Bhopal on30th April 2011.‣ Dr. S. D. Attri, Scientist ‘E’ evaluated Ph.D. thesisentitled “Physico‐chemical characterization of Aerosolsand Precursor Gases in and around Delhi” and conductedviva‐voce examination on 6th April, 2011at Jamia MilliaIslamia University, New Delhi. He also conducted Vivavoceexamination of M. Tech students at IIT Delhi on 31 stMay, 2011 and 24 th June, 2011.‣ Dr. Medha Khole, Scientist ‘E’ worked as a Memberof the panel of paper setters for the subject ‘EarthScience’, for the State Eligibility Test (SET) examination tobe conducted by University of Pune.‣ Dr. V. Rajeswara Rao, Sc‐E was on tour to AndhraUniversity, Visakhapatnam as External Examiner toconduct Examinations for M.Sc.‣ Dr. R. Suresh, Scientist ‘E’ has been appointed as amember of Board of Studies in Atmospheric Science,Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi.TRAINING WORKSHOP‣ Nine officials of Administration, RMC Chennaiwere imparted a training – “Centralised e‐adminsupport system” conducted by HQ at RMC Chennaiduring 18‐19, April 2011.‣ Three days training workshop on “DWRProducts, their interpretation and utilization” wasconducted from 11‐13 May 2011 at DWR Kolkata.Six forecasters from RMC Kolkata and AMO Kolkataattended the workshop.‣ A training on Seismic Instruments andequipments was given to the trainees ofIntermediate course (Instrumentation) MeteorologyTraining Batch <strong>No</strong>. XXXVI by Officers fromSeismology Division during 23‐27 May, 2011.‣ A Training Workshop on Doppler WeatherRadar was organized at DWR Chennai for eight IAFpersonnel (JCOs and NCOs), from 20 th to 24 th June2011.‣ Under the auspices of M.C. Bhopal, 25personnel from the Water Resources Deptt., Govt.of M.P. were imparted basic training in installation,inspection and validation of Met. Data. The trainingwas arranged at Water And Land ManagementInstitute (WALMI) Bhopal during 20‐29 June 2011.The trainees were awarded certificates afterundergoing meticulous training test and vivaexamination.NORTH EAST TELEMETRY TRAININGDGM with the participant traineesA two week’s training program on <strong>No</strong>rth EastTelemetry Network highlighting the hardware andsoftware related aspects of the field stations andCentral Receiving Stations was held during 27 thJune to 9 th July, 2011. Senior officers and staff ofSeismology and EREC and a few officers from CSO,Shillong and other <strong>No</strong>rth East field stationsparticipated in the training program. CWC, under the Union Ministry of Water Resources,collects hydro‐meteorological data and issues flood forecastson major river and their tributaries in the country. IMDunder the Ministry of Earth Sciences collects rainfall data.CWC & IMD agreed upon to exchange meteorological andrainfall data being collected by each department foreffective use of these data. An MoU between CWC and IMDregarding exchange of Real Time Rainfall Data was signed.On behalf of Central Water Commission, the Chairman CWC,and on behalf of IMD, DG IMD signed the memorandum.MoU Signing Ceremony between IMD and CDACDG, IMD, signing the MoU with CWCMoU BETWEEN IMD AND CDAC, PUNEA MoU between <strong>India</strong> <strong>Meteorological</strong> <strong>Department</strong> andCentre for Development of Advanced Computing(CDAC), Pune was signed by AVM (Dr.) Ajit Tyagi,Director General of Meteorology, IMD, New Delhi andProfessor Rajat Moona, Director General, CDAC, Punefor Technology development for applications of weatherand climate information in Agriculture, Hydrology,Aviation etc. using interdisciplinary computationaltechnologies such as GIS, networking, <strong>India</strong>n languagesoftware and HPC.MoU BETWEEN IMD AND ANDHRA UNIVERSITYA Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed on 15 th June 2011 between the Andhra University andIMD for conduct of an M. Tech course in atmospheric science for the officers of IMD. Andhra University will offerthe course exclusively for the IMD officers.The MoU is a landmark to help develop capacity buildingbetween the two institutions. The training workshop wasattended by representatives from six South Asian countries, namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, <strong>India</strong>, Maldives, Nepal,and Sri Lanka.
