From theSuperintendentBudget Informational MeetingRelationshipsInterim Superintendent Jim Anastasio and Assistant Superintendent Donna Madore hosted <strong>Augusta</strong> <strong>City</strong> Officials and ourlocal state legislative delegation at a gathering on Friday, <strong>February</strong> 8 th . Eleven members from city hall, city council, schoolboard and state government listened as Mr. Anastasio explained how the school budget was built in the past and the revenueresources that support the <strong>Augusta</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Department</strong>’s budget. The Essential Programs and Services (EPS) funding modelutilized by the <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> Education was explained in reference to the expected contributions from both the state and themunicipality. The intent <strong>of</strong> the session was to inform our local and state leaders about how a school budget is put together andthe funding sources available.The meeting was well received by those who attended. Several guests shared that the session was helpful for them, informative,and asked that it be repeated for a larger group <strong>of</strong> people. Collectively, it was an impressive group <strong>of</strong> individuals who care a lotabout the <strong>Augusta</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Department</strong> and asked excellent questions.

Each week this dedicated group gives up two hours <strong>of</strong>their lunch and prep period time to meet individually with classroom teachers to createsupport plans for our students. This is the dream team; they are a creative and flexible groupthat is willing to “think outside the box” to generate interventions that help students to besuccessful academically, socially and behaviorally.Classroom teachers are able to meet with the team every three weeks; allowing ourinterventions to have a chance to work, or not, before we meet again to modify our plans.Interventions that are working are continued; those that are not as effective are modified orreplaced. With the support <strong>of</strong> the Hussey <strong>School</strong> Staff and the RTI Core Team, students aremaking strong progress toward achieving their goals!We are lucky to have this group working with our students!
