Hell, I probably would of worna sombrero if they told me to”.Well, none of it worked and Aldean was dropped fromthe label.Today, Aldean’s sound shows he has found his target. “ She’sCountry,” that seems to resemble Led Zeppelin’s hit” Black Dog,”to” Hicktown” and” Johnny Cash“, that all have 80’s rock bandguitar licks that drive what Aldean says to be his sound. “I’vealways leaned toward guitar,“ he says. “It just sounds nastier”.It took a few years for things tocome around. By the time it did,Aldean had a marriage, a daughterand had already been to everyrecord label in Nashville twice. “Ithink they were sick of me at thatpoint” Aldean said. This is where Aldean learned therewere two types of people in Nashville.Leaders and followers. He realized he had become a follower. If you like whatyou hear, don’tmess with it.”-Jason AldeanAldean is one of the few acts in Nashvilleto use his band on his records. This wasa practice for bands of the 60’s like BuckOwens and The Buckaroos and MerleHaggard and the Strangers, but notsince then had this been the norm.Aldean told the label. “If you like what youhear, don’t mess with it”.With Aldean’s single release of “Big Green Tractor”, a song writtenby David Lee Murphy, Aldean catapulted himself into superstarstatus. In 2010, Aldean is the hottest ticket going.JASON ALDEAN|Bobby Randall“Once I got back to playing the kind of music I like, things reallystarted clicking”. In the beer joint days, Aldean would play aGeorge Strait song then go right into a Guns and Roses song.Jason Aldean’s concert at Soaring Eagle resort in Mt. Pleasant,April 9th sold out before tickets even went on sale. Look for Aldeanat the Midland Co Fair in August 2010. 103In the music business, there are two types of people. Leaders and followers. If you are a leader you will take chances by sticking to your guns. You go with yourgut feeling, you never compromise and pray success will find you. If you are afollower, you will find yourself always behind the curve and if you are lucky a closesecond is the best you can ask for.Nashville has been knownto have both leaders andfollowers.W h e n s o m e o n e f i n d ssuccess, you will findseveral followers trying tojump on the bandwagon.Nobody inNashville reallyknows what isgoing to be thenext big thing. The Dixie Chicks burst onto the national music sceneand immediately followers or copy cats began to show up. Manypeople will tell you they do, but the truth is no one knows. When Jason Aldean moved to Nashville in1998, he was 21 years old. It wasn’t longbefore he found himself signed to Capitolrecords. A native of Macon Georgia, Aldeanhad already played his share of beer jointsand honky tonks. Aldean’s father actuallybooked his son’s band into college townsin Florida, Alabama and Georgia.Aldean says “ I grew up in Georgia, it’s oneof the hotbeds of Southern rock” “I grew upon Hank Jr., Alabama, The Allman Brothersand Skynard mixed in for a little flavor.”Needless to say his style of music wasn’treally what Capitol records was lookingfor. “They weren’t really signing a lot ofhat acts back then,” Aldean recalls.” I’vealways worn a hat,” the singer said. Theywanted to take away my hat and softenmy sound. “I was trying to conform to whatthey wanted me to be or what they thoughtwould work, verses what I’d always done”.JASON ALDEAN Continued on Next Page18 holes of scenic challenging golf with fast, undulating greensMonday-Friday • 18 holes w/cart$25.00up to 4 personscall for T-Time*must present couponcoupon expires at the end of the 2010 SeasonPleasant Hills Golf Club4452 E.
