HeatingOptimised climate solution focusing on heatingClimate for Growth

The way to an optimum house climateSKOV provides ventilation solutions inwhich heating is an integrated part of theoverall solution.A good house climate is important for theanimal well-being, health and productivity.Heating is a part of the total climatesolution in line with cooling and ventila-tion and a crucial parameter to create anoptimum house climate which contributesto a high productivity. The climate in the livestock house, wheretemperature and relative air humidity arethe most important factors, is of majorimportance for the feed conversion, gain, stress, infection risk, etc.It is necessary to ventilate and to supplyheat to the livestock house in order tocontrol the climate including temperature, humidity and CO 2.

Effective forced air heatingSpiraflex finned tubes provide an efficientand economical heating of the air in thehouse. The emission of heat from a Spiraflextube is per metre far better than if thesurface of the tube had been smooth. The tubes are mounted below the wallinlets. The finned tubes emit heat (convection)to the surrounding air. The airgets lighter, rises and carries the cold airfrom the inlets further into the houseensuring circulation of the air. The positioningof the Spiraflex tube helps providethe correct ventilation with optimummixing of cold air from the outside andheated housing air so that the broilers arenot exposed to cold air down draughts.Heating - a prerequisite forgood litterIn order to give the broilers and the litterthe best possible start, it is important toheat the livestock house for a prolongedperiod of time prior to the stocking of thebroilers. This is essential in climate areaswhere it is cool/cold. The air temperaturecan be raised within a few hours; however,it may take a long time for the walls andfloor to be heated. For the same reason,it is a good idea not to let the heat out ofthe house between the batches. The small broilers are completely dependenton the ambient air temperature andthe solid base for good production resultsthat are formed during the first week afterstocking. Therefore, it is a good investmentto ensure optimum climatic conditionsfrom the point of stocking.Floor heating is well suited for heating ofthe house prior to broilers being stocked, but floor heating is not recommendedas the only heat source in the livestockhouse. It takes a relatively long time toadjust the temperature in the house eitherup or down by means of floor heating andit can be difficult to reach the set pointtemperature in the livestock house shortlyafterwards. With Spiraflex finned tubes, itis possible to raise the temperature ratherquickly in order to improve the distributionof the birds throughout the house.Direct heatingToday, direct heating through e.g. gas oroil blowers inside the livestock house isoften used due to the relatively low initialcosts. This is done despite the fact that itresults in a number of operating and technicaldrawbacks in relation to the climate. One of the essential negative consequencesof direct heating is an increase of theCO 2concentration inside the livestockhouse. In 2010, requirements concerning air qualityin broiler houses are standard in theEU countries. For instance, there will be alimit for the permissible level of CO 2in thelivestock house. The new code of practicemeans that the permissible stocking rate islower if the requirement concerning max.3000 ppm CO 2in the house cannot bemet. (Measurement is taken at eye level ofthe broilers).SKOV heating systemHeating systems from SKOV are based onsupply and circulation of hot water. SKOVheating components are of a very highquality and they are well suited for a harshhouse environment.

HeatingWith Spiraflex finned tubes for heating ofthe livestock houses, you get an efficientand quickly responding heating systemensuring the animals a perfect climate.Spiraflex finned tubes are available in twostandard dimensions (1” and 1½”) of thelengths 1, 3 and 6 metres.Finned tubes• All-welded finned tubes ensuring adocumented high heat output• Made of steel - boiler tube quality(DIN 17175)• The finned tube is hot-galvanized• Threaded finned tube is supplied as astandard• Plumbing fittings• Mounted by means of stainless fittingsShuntsIn addition, we supply complete shunts forregulation of forced air heating and floorheating respectively. The shunts ensurean optimum regulation of temperaturethrough the SKOV climate computers inrelation to power consumption under allconditions. This way, the best productionenvironment is created in the livestockhouse.Shunt - forced air heating• Ready-assembled shunt is suppliedon a stainless mounting plate• The shunt is service-optimized withdirt trap and stop valves• Special nonreturn valve for optimummixing under all conditions• Easy-readable thermometer face onthe supply and return flow• Available in standard sizes from Cv0.63-16• Motor classification IP66Shunt - floor heating• Ready-assembled shunt is suppliedon a stainless mounting plate• The shunt is service-optimized withstop valves• Powerful three-step pump ensuringoptimum heat distribution andcooling• Special nonreturn valve for optimummixing under all conditions• Easy-readable thermometer face onthe supply and return flow• Stands differential pressure up to 6bar (60 mWC)• Can easily be invertedThis shunt is available in two variants.Modulating shunt well suited for smallamounts of water and 0-10 V shunt wellsuited for great amounts of water.act innovate cooperateSKOV supply climate and production management systems for animalproduction the world over.
