<strong>Call</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Proposal</strong>s to DevelopCurricula Integrated with TechnologyThe Minnesota Literacy Council is making available grants of up to $4000 each toqualified individuals or <strong>Adult</strong> <strong>Basic</strong> <strong>Education</strong> programs to develop 1-2 learningmodules that meet the following criteria:• It must be targeted toward a specific learner level.• It must include use of some technology, such as audio, video, website, digitalcamera or computer technologies.• It must be designed using original content and appropriate permissions mustbe obtained that take into account publication on the Internet.• It must include guidelines that can be published on the internet and willensure the project can be used and or replicated by other teachers.Previous proposals and grant projects can be viewed by going tohttp://www.themlc.org/techgrants.html some of the past grants include:Online practice <strong>for</strong> medical vocabulary related to prescriptions, nutrition, diabetesand high blood pressure. Exercises provide learners with practice reading labels andunderstanding the fat, carbohydrate and protein content of foods.Online practice <strong>for</strong>ms <strong>for</strong> pre-literate through advanced ABE learners. Teachers canprint out <strong>for</strong>ms <strong>for</strong> in-class practice, then do follow up online exercises. Forms rangefrom very simple name entry to complex and topic specific <strong>for</strong>ms, such as driverslicense and insurance <strong>for</strong>ms. Printable teacher guidelines are included.A series of audio files and accompanying print materials that could be distributedonline and copied onto CDs and cassettes to be used by ESL students who are preliterateor emergent readers.Video Story Telling: video clips in sign language using personal stories as thecontext <strong>for</strong> developing language skills in adult learners.An interactive website with job interview videos, online exercises and print handouts.Videos show ESL students acting out good and bad interview scenarios with atemp agency interviewer.


Submission:Applicants, please send a 2- 4 page letter of proposal describing yourproposed learning module(s), including:• How it meets the needs of low level learners.• The various technologies involved.• How you envision it being used by your program and by others• Qualifications of the developer(s)• A project development timeline, and a brief budget.Projects will be evaluated using the following criteria:• Does the proposal target the intended audience (low-level learners, ABE or ESL)with appropriate materials?• Does the proposed use of technology seem reasonable and make sense <strong>for</strong> theintended application?• Do the developers seem to have sufficient qualifications to take on the project or isadequate training built into the project?• Does the timeline seem reasonable and the budget reflect accurate costs <strong>for</strong> theproject?• Are original materials being created <strong>for</strong> the proposal or are the applicantsrequesting the proper permissions <strong>for</strong> any materials <strong>for</strong> which there may becopyright holdings?• Are products being developed that can actually be shared by other ABE teachers,besides the end products themselves?
