H5D CAMERA TECHNOLOGY:TRUE FOCUS AND ABSOLUTE POSITION LOCKH5D CAMERA TECHNOLOGY:UNPARALLELED CUSTOMISATIONWe have designed the H5D to work theway that photographers work, witheasy and direct access to all thecontrols and functions that one wouldexpect from a professional camera.Sometimes, however, it is hard topredict how you will need to work in agiven situation. For that reason, wehave designed the H5D to be asadaptable and customisable aspossible. Most buttons, for instance, can be assigned a user determinedHasselblad’s True Focus feature helps solve one of thefunction and any complete set-up ofthe camera can be saved as a custommost lingering challenges facing serious photographers today:profile. Simply touch the profile buttonand select from among your favouritetrue, accurate focusing throughout the image field.pre-sets and then export or upload toother H5D cameras. The H5D camera can be set up tooperate in precisely the way you wantto work, depending on your mood, the6 situation, or the job at hand.7When focusing on a subject outside the center area, youmust first lock focus on the subject and then re-composethe image. At close focusing distances particularly, thisre-composing causes focus error, as the plane of sharpnessfollows the movement of the camera, perpendicular tothe axis of the lens.H5D CAMERA TECHNOLOGY:MODULAR FREEDOMThe traditional solution for most DSLRcameras has been to equip the camerawith a multi-point AF sensor.Such multi-point AF solutions, however, are often tedious and inflexible towork with and in addition, due to thephysics of an SLR-camera, the off-centerfocus points offered are clusteredrelatively close to the center of theimage. The photographer is still forcedto focus first and then shift the camerato reframe, with a resulting loss of focusas a result. To overcome this problem, Hasselbladhas used modern yaw rate sensor technologyto measure camera movementin an innovative way. The result is theAbsolute Position Lock (APL) processor, which forms the foundation of Hasselblad’sTrue Focus feature. The APL pro cessor accurately logscamera movement during any recomposing, uses these exact measurementsto calculate the necessary focusadjustment, and then issues the propercommands to the lens’s focus motor soit can compensate. The APL processorcomputes the advanced positionalalgorithms and carries out the requiredfocus corrections at such rapid speedthat no shutter lag occurs. The H5D’sfirmware then further perfects the focususing the precise data retrieval systemfound on all H System lenses. The upper image shows the result whennot using True Focus. While this imagelooks relatively sharp, the lower imagewhere True Focus has been used, is razorsharp.View Camera OptionAll H5D cameras have been designedto allow the digital back to bedetached and used on a view cameraby way of an H system adapter. In thisconfiguration, the digital back can beused with electronic shutters fromRollei, Schneider, and others, eitherstand-alone using the flash syncsignal from the shutter or tethered toa computer with full control of theelectronic shutter from the computer.Choice of bright viewfindersOne of the most important andappreciated advantages of themedium format is the extra-large andbright viewfinder image, enablingextremely precise compositions andeasy operation even in dim lighting. An interchangeable waist-levelviewfinder, the HVM, is also availablefor the entire range of H5D systemcameras, allowing top-down viewingwhen desired.Tilt/Shift photographyUsed with the H5D cameras, the HTS1.5 tilt/shift adapter provides clevertilt/shift capabilities for a range of HSystem lenses, including the 24 mm,28 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, 80 mm, and100 mm lenses. Integrated digitalsensors on all moving parts provideconstant feedback as to the exacttilt/shift movements, enabling theHasselblad digital lens correctiontechnology to optimize corner-tocornerimage quality for the given lensand at the given focusing distance. This ingenious device combineswell known optical principles with thelatest in digital image control to notonly solve technical challenges, but toalso provide exciting creativeopportunities that will help you takeyour photographic expression toentirely new levels.

H System Lenses.Images that are destined for digitalshould be designed for digital. If yourlenses cannot resolve extreme high resolutiondetail, then you will never get themost from your extreme high resolutionsensor.Hasselblad lenses are just that;designed with digital corrections andToday's H System lenses are the culmination of over 60 years ofprocessing and extremely high resolutionin mind. Our lenses are the entryexperience, gained from producing over one million lenses. Thispoint for an exacting image processingexperience, combined with vastly improved design and productionchain, from lens to body to back to softwareand print, where all elements aretechniques, enables us to produce lenses that could not even be imagineddesigned to function and communicatewhen Victor Hasselblad first began producing cameras over half a centuryseamlessly with one another.Today’s Hasselblad lenses areago. Simply put, today’s Hasselblad H System lenses out perform anycharacterised by the finest grade oflens on the market today - even our own much loved V System Zeissglass available, and designed for optimalrendering of the finest detail, with perfectlenses.sharpness from corner to corner, foreach and every image. All Hasselbladlenses have central lens shutters andfeature Medium Format’s fastest autofocus,12 built around extremely rapid and13accurate in-lens motors.A unique manual override design offersthe convenience of working seamlesslybetween auto-focus and manual focuswith all lenses.Central Lens ShuttersTo enable flash shooting at the fastestshutter speeds, quiet operationand steady exposures, all lenses areequipped with a central lens shutter.High speed follow through shots arealso much more realistic when shootingwith a central lens shutter system, withoutthe compression or elongation thatlateral focal plane shutters create.Central lens shutters have characterisedHasselblad lenses for over 50 years, and still play a key role in the flexibilityand creative application of theHasselblad system.Foto: Tom D JomesTilt and Shift, True Focus, Digital LensCorrection and MoreHasselblad lenses have evolved alongsidethe digital age, incorporating newtechniques such as digital lens correctionand True Focus. All lenses, no matter how well designed, exhibit some minor flaws. It is not theHasselblad philosophy, however, toaccept such shortcomings, no matterhow minor. That’s why we developedDigital Lens Correction. Using exactknowledge of the design of each lens,Hasselblad digital lens correction automaticallycorrects any traces of colouraberration, distortion, or light fall off.In addition, this feature enables 6 HSystem lenses, ranging from 24mm to100 mm, to now perform tilt and shiftphotography using the innovative HasselbladHTS 1.5 tilt/shift adapter.Medium format lenses also have ashallower depth-of-field than 35 mmDSLR cameras at the same aperture. Amedium format camera therefore needsa very accurate focus control whenworking in near field with open apertures. Our True Focus feature does justthat – and does it fully automatically.Solutions forAerial PhotographyA range of specialised industrial solutions,in particular Aerial Photography, have been developed around the HSystem, based upon the outstandingoptical results achieved with the H4Daerial cameras and the H Systemlenses. This added file support resultsin a single, comprehensive – and free– solution that enables all Hasselbladphoto graphers to streamline theirwork process and to work with bothHasselblad images and those capturedwith their 35 mm DSLRs inone and the same application.Making a career as a professionalphotographer is a time demanding andchallenging task. While Phocus providescomplete access to all the latestHasselblad developments, many photographers, having started with AdobePhotoshop, prefer to work within theAdobe Lightroom environment. With itsimpressive set of imaging tools, imagedatabase, and excellent RAW processor.Lightroom provides an environment thatthey are comfortable with and wherethey can process images quickly. This enables photographers to extendtheir DSLR photography to include aHasselblad camera and to work withHasselblad files in their preferred softwareenvironment. For this reason, we worked with Adobe toport the most important parts our imagingtechnology to Lightroom and Adobein turn has implemented the neededtechnology for Hasselblad RAW files tobe recognized and perfectly processed inthe Lightroom environment. This integrationhas taken place in stages, first withthe delivery of lens correction profilesfor all our lenses, then the embeddingof Hasselblad Natural Colour technologyin Lightroom. We have now added thetether plug-in that allows all H Systemdigital cameras to be recognized andtightly controlled from Lightroom. TheLightroom tether plug-in even supportsthe use of our mobile camera controlapplication, Phocus Mobile. We Never Sacrifice on QualityWe would never integrate our technologywith another platform if wecould not guarantee that the resultingimage quality would be up to ourexacting standards, or that the levelof camera control would be equallyoutstanding. All image quality challengeshave been met to our satisfactionand the Hasselblad tetherplug-in for Lightroom gives access toall advanced control options of theH System digital cameras. Camerasetup and capture can be carried outfrom the computer or from the cameraat the user’s discretion. Images arethen available for instant processingin Lightroom. FLEXTIGHT X1/X530The latest generation of Hasselblad scanners, the Flextight X1 and X5, are both built around thesame unique and patented foundation. A verticaloptical system allows the CCD to face downwards, creating a glass-free optical path between theoriginal and the lens. The patented virtual drumsolution produces optimal focusing across theentire original and the flexible holder guaranteeseasy mounting and safe and secure handling ofyour originals. Both Flextight scanners provide virtually thesame scanning quality. The X5 scanner providesa range of productivity features and capabilitiesdesigned for those photographers or studios withmore intensive or volume scanning needs.31Flextight X1. Item no. 70380301Hasselblad Scanners. Most photographers are speechless the first time they see a filefrom a 6x6 negative scanned on a Flextight scanner. Images that weretraditionally inspected on the light table with a hand held magnifier jumpout at you with detail and colour rendering that you never even knew wasrecorded. You never knew your film images were this good!As film stocks disappear, scanning is increasingly concentrated aroundthe digitalization of photo archives. Such operations are often found in publicinstitutions, such as museums, or in the studios of pro photographers whoare re-discovering hidden assets in the form of old photographs.TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FLEXTIGHT X1Max optical resolution 35 mm 60 mm 4x5"6,300 dpi 3,200 dpi 2,040 dpiMax scan speed 35 mm 60 mm 4x5"Optical sensor CCD (3 x 8000)Original typeColour depthAuto frame detectionAuto focusBatch scanningBatch- and Slide FeederCompatibilityInterfacePlatform7.15 min 6.02 min 5.08 minNeg /Pos16 bitYesYesYesNoDmax 4.6Film, max formatReflective scanningActive coolingFlextouch3F scan initiated directlyon scannerLight condensatorDimensionsWeightFirewirePC/Mac120 x 280 mmNoNoYesYesNo230 x 390 x 650 mm20.5 kgTECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FLEXTIGHT X5Max optical resolution 35 mm 60 mm 4x5"8,000 dpi 3,200 dpi 2,040 dpiMax scan speed 35 mm 60 mm 4x5"Optical sensor CCD (3 x 8000)Original typeColour depthAuto frame detectionAuto focusBatch scanningBatch- and Slide FeederCompatibilityInterfacePlatform1.55 min 1.10 min 1.23 minNeg /Pos /Prints16 bitYesYesYesYesDmax 4.9Film, max formatReflective scanningActive coolingFlextouch3F scan initiated directlyon scannerLight condensatorDimensionsWeightFirewirePC/Mac100 x 280 mmA4YesYesYesYes230 x 390 x 650 mm20.5 kg
