Lawton Elementary September 19, 2007The Gym-NEWS-ium is the P.E./Health newsletterthat is published for the students and families atLawton Elementary each month. The newsletter willinclude important information about health andsafety, P.E. happenings, highlights about thestudents, and sometimes healthy recipes to try! Wehope that you will take a few minutes each month toread the Gym-NEWS-ium and to be a part of ahealthier community. This year we are happy toannounce that we will have oneand a half PE teachers for ourstudents. With the increasednumber in students, it was importantto both parents and staff to make surestudents were not getting less P.E. but more! Inorder to do this we had to create a new half timeposition. Though no one has been hired permanently,we are very lucky to have Sue Turner with us atleast through September. The students call her “Ms.T” just like I did when she was my teacher at SanisloElementary. Yes, that’s right she was my teachertoo! She has taught for 36 years and is still verypassionate about what she does. She continues tomotivate and inspire me on a daily basis and it’sbeen fun having her teach here at Lawton. Inaddition to teaching, she teaches workshops, playsvolleyball and softball, while co-authoring P.E. bookswith her husband. If you have chance, stop by andwelcome Ms. T to Lawton and maybe we canconvince her to stay all year!As the Physical Education Specialists it is our philosophy todevelop both the mind and body through movement.Physical Education is an integral part of your child’seducation that contributes to his/her growth anddevelopment.
