ANNUAL REPORT 2009 27As a result, at Viscofan we have incorporated into our operations a permanent improvement model, underwhich our production centres present a structure that keeps the balance between its competitiveness in costsand technology.than other more developed economies, they lose cost competitiveness, which is offset by the technologicalimprovements resulting from the best practices and automation of processes that come from our centres ofcentres due to their inferior technology or the lower value perceived by the client.the system in what is a permanent improvement model.is the centre of excellence for collagen, Danville’s plant in the US concentrates the production of fibrous casings,while the production of plastics is based in our plants in Ceske Budejoviece (Czech Republic) and Sao Paulo(Brazil).There are concrete initiatives based on this model that will be developed during the course of 2010 and 2011:We will be incorporating technological improvements into the centres of excellence that will result in higherproduction speeds for cellulose in Spain and collagen in Germany. In the US, we want to improve our positionin fibrous: we have made huge advances at the operational level but these now need to be repeated in our salesvolumes.In North America, where our plants are less energy efficient than in Europe, we are working on improvementsto increase productivity and energy savings.
BusiAgainst a background of negative global economicgrowth, marked by falling demand and reducedcredit access, the Viscofan Group grew its cumulativenet revenue as of December 2009 by 5.7% to over583.4MM.
