<strong>FACT</strong><strong>SHEET</strong>Emergency Towage VesselPacific ResponderPacific Responder is an Anchor Handling Tug Supply(AHTS) vessel modified to fulfil the role of AMSA’sdedicated emergency towage vessel (ETV). This is the onlyETV of its type in Australia and operates in the particularlysensitive sea areas of the northern Great Barrier Reef andTorres Strait. The vessel has its home port in Cairns butspends the majority of its time patrolling at sea, availablefor emergency towage tasking by AMSA should a maritimecasualty occur. It is particularly suited to emergency towagewith a bollard pull of 82 tonnes.the effects of ship-sourced pollution of the sea and carriesoil pollution response equipment.While patrolling in its areas of responsibility the ETVwill also be engaged for about 100 days each year inmaintaining AMSA’s aids to navigation network.ETV services are provided to AMSA by the Brisbane firm<strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Maritime</strong> Systems Limited in conjunction withSwire Pacific Offshore.
