Umschlagbild: „Keramikschliff mit kleinen Fehlern“<br />

Siliziumnitrid-Keramiken vereinen die wünschenswerte, jedoch seltene Kombination aus hoher Festigkeit,<br />

sehr guter Temperaturwechselbeständigkeit und geringer Dichte. Wegen der hohen Produktionskosten<br />

ist ein breiter Einsatz jedoch eingeschränkt, denn das Siliziumnitrid muss unter anderem mit<br />

Hilfe von Zusätzen bei rund 1900 Grad Celsius verdichtet (gesintert) werden.<br />

Unter dem Elektronenmikroskop untersuchen die Forscher die verschiedenen Auswirkungen der Sinterzusätze<br />

auf die Mikrostruktur und Porosität des Siliziumnitrids. Hier<strong>für</strong> ist erforderlich, die Keramiken<br />

anzuschleifen – ohne dass sich winzige, störende Ausbrüche oder Rissbildung einschleichen,<br />

wie sie auf dem Bild zu sehen sind.<br />

Das von Dr. Stefanie Wildhack und Michael Welter angefertigte Bild ziert den aktuellen Jahreskalender<br />

der <strong>Max</strong>-<strong>Planck</strong>-Gesellschaft „Bilder aus der Wissenschaft 2007“.<br />

Hier aufgeführte Arbeiten aus dem Jahr 2005 lagen bei Redaktionsschluss des vergangenen Berichts<br />

noch nicht vor.<br />

a) Ehrungen<br />

Dr. M. Cancarevic, Dr. M. Zinkevich und Prof. Dr. F. Aldinger erhielten den Best Paper Award des<br />

Journal of the Ceramic Society of Japan <strong>für</strong> ihre Veröffentlichung „Thermodynamic Assessment of the<br />

PZT System“, erschienen im Journal of the Ceramic Society of Japan 114, 11, 937-949 (<strong>2006</strong>).<br />

Prof. Dr. S. Dietrich wurde zum Fellow der International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry<br />

ernannt.<br />

Dr. C. Eberl erhielt die Otto-Hahn-Medaille 2005 der <strong>Max</strong>-<strong>Planck</strong>-Gesellschaft.<br />

Ehrenvorsitzenden des Fachausschusses „Materialographie” verliehen in Anerkennung seiner<br />

außergewöhnlichen Verdienste bei der Gründung und Fortentwicklung des Fachausschusses seit mehr<br />

als dreißig Jahren.<br />

Prof. Dr. G. Petzow wurde zum Ehrenpräsidenten des „1 st Sino-German Symposium on<br />

Christine Selhuber erhielt als jüngste Doktorandin des Jahres <strong>2006</strong> der Naturwissenschaftlich-<br />

Mathematischen Gesamtfakultät der Universität Heidelberg mit Abschlussnote "summa cum laude"<br />

den Dr. Wilma Moser-Preis, der als Anerkennung <strong>für</strong> herausragende wissenschaftliche Arbeiten steht<br />

und mit Euro 5.000,- dotiert ist.<br />

Dr. A. Stierle erhielt den Günter Petzow Preis <strong>2006</strong> in Anerkennung <strong>für</strong> seine herausragenden Beiträge<br />

zu einem mikroskopischen Verständnis von Oxidations- und Korrosionsvorgängen.<br />
