Strategic PlanSecuring the Future – Making a Positive Difference 2008 –<strong>2011</strong>Securing the Future – Making a Positive Difference is the last <strong>of</strong> twophases in the current strategic planning cycle which began with Buildingthe Foundation, which supported the formation <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Department</strong>, inFebruary 2006.As the <strong>Department</strong> reflects on the final year <strong>of</strong> the current three year plan,it will remain focused on continuing to improve the quality and effectiveness<strong>of</strong> service delivery and to make a positive difference in the lives <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fendersand the Western Australian community.The development <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Department</strong>’s <strong>2011</strong>–2014 Strategic Plan - WorkingTogether - Making a Positive Difference, is well underway.Working collaboratively across Government agencies is, and will continueto be, prominent in the development <strong>of</strong> services and in particular thoseservices in regional areas and for Aboriginal people.Empowering <strong>of</strong>fenders to develop skills and a work ethic that enhancestheir employability in the general community has a dual benefit <strong>of</strong> fulfillingthe corporate social responsibility <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Department</strong> and making apositive difference to community safety and wellbeing by giving <strong>of</strong>fenders asense that they can positively contribute to community life rather than beestranged from it.As such our key result areas are:»»contributing to a safer community through the effective management <strong>of</strong><strong>of</strong>fenders in accordance with assessed risk and need»»reducing re-<strong>of</strong>fending through a positive change in <strong>of</strong>fender behaviour»»enhancing business capability through the <strong>Department</strong>’s people»»enhancing business capability through the way the <strong>Department</strong> works.<strong>Department</strong> OutcomesThe <strong>Department</strong>’s outcomes are aligned with Governmentgoals and we remain committed to achieving them through:Improving community safety through:»»effective use <strong>of</strong> sentencing options»»managing <strong>of</strong>fenders safely, securely and humanely»»upholding the integrity <strong>of</strong> sentences»»supporting victims <strong>of</strong> crime.Reducing re-<strong>of</strong>fending by:»»addressing <strong>of</strong>fenders’ rehabilitation needs»»allowing <strong>of</strong>fenders to acquire employment skills and qualifications»»addressing <strong>of</strong>fenders’ re-integrative needs»»delivering preventative programs and services to those at risk <strong>of</strong> re-<strong>of</strong>fending.<strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Corrective</strong> Services » <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2010</strong>/<strong>2011</strong> 16
