<strong>SDSU</strong> <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>2013</strong> <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Study</strong> <strong>Program</strong><strong>Eligibility</strong> Requirements and Application ProceduresThe summer <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Study</strong> (FWS) program period covers from June 1, <strong>2013</strong>, to August 31, <strong>2013</strong>. You are not required toattend <strong>SDSU</strong> <strong>Summer</strong> Session to participate in the summer FWS program.<strong>Eligibility</strong> Requirements for <strong>Summer</strong> EmploymentYou must—• Be an <strong>SDSU</strong> student either continuing (enrolled for the spring <strong>2013</strong> semester) or newly admitted (planning to enroll for the fall<strong>2013</strong> semester).• Have filed the <strong>2013</strong>-14 Free Application for <strong>Federal</strong> Student Aid (FAFSA) and have a financial aid award for the <strong>2013</strong>-14academic year from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS).• Maintain satisfactory academic progress at the end of the spring <strong>2013</strong> semester as defined by the OFAS. If you are not makingsatisfactory academic progress, the OFAS will post a message on your AidLink account and notify you by e-mail. You will not beeligible for summer <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Study</strong>.Procedures for <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Study</strong>If you meet the eligibility requirements above, then—1. Find open job opportunities from the jobs listed on the OFAS website. Click on "<strong>Summer</strong> FWS Jobs" at: sdsu.edu/financialaid.2. Schedule an interview with the employer.3. Complete Section A (on page 2).4. Your FWS employer (both Supervisor and Division Coordinator) must complete Sections B, C and F.Notification of <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Study</strong> <strong>Eligibility</strong><strong>Summer</strong> FWS eligibility will be determined beginning in May. Both you and the Division Coordinator will be sent notification ofeligibility or ineligibility via e-mail. You may begin working only after OFAS notifies the Division Coordinator of your eligibility.<strong>Summer</strong> FWS Earnings May Affect Your <strong>2013</strong>-14 Financial Aid AwardPart of your summer earnings may be considered a resource in determining your <strong>2013</strong>-14 academic yearfinancial aid award. The amount to be considered a fall resource will be indicated on your AidLink recordin "Your Messages" and as a resource in "Your Award Summary." If you have questions concerning theresource amount and how it affects your eligibility, please contact the OFAS.Required Documentation<strong>Federal</strong> law requires documentation to prove your eligibility to work as follows—• An original Social Security card (no photocopies accepted) or proof of application for a Social Security number.• Photo identification — an <strong>SDSU</strong> Red ID card plus either a Driver’s License or U.S. Passport.• Permanent Resident Aliens must present a Permanent Resident card.Employment Procedure for All New <strong>SDSU</strong> Student Employees1. You and the hiring department complete A, B, C, and F of the attached Student Employment Authorization for <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>2013</strong>.Section F — Signatures→→Authorizing department signature is always required.→→Division Coordinator signature is required for <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Study</strong> positions.2. Present appropriate documentation to the Center for Human Resources (CHR), Extended Studies Center, Room 406 (see“Required Documentation” above). CHR initials Section C of the form to verify your eligibility to work.3. CHR returns the original completed form to you which you take to the OFAS, SSW 3605. OFAS keeps a copy and forwards theoriginal to CHR if you are eligible for summer work study employment.4. Do not begin working until OFAS notifies the Division Coordinator that you are eligible.5. If you are not eligible for summer work study, the OFAS places a message on your AidLink account and sends you an e-mail.PaychecksPaychecks are distributed in each department.
